Best ball for the ABC Nationals, due to the oil pattern????
« on: February 12, 2004, 07:31:44 PM »
I just found the oil pattern on bowl.com and i will place a link in this page for those that have not seen it.  My question is what type of ball should i use on this pattern, shinny, dull, aggressive, weak, or what please let me know.

Here is the link

Pretty short pattern at 36' or 37'.  Less than 60 units in the heads should make for a very interesting late shift singles and doubles.  Looks fairly similar to PBA A pattern.

Shined solid resin with a weak core should work real well.  Or that is what I have had success with on these type shots.  Of course it has been said before that weak pearls with strong cores should rip in off the tight inside line.

Of course, thats just my opinion and I would be curious to see what others say

The biggest issue that I've always faced at the Stadium is managing the transition of the ball from oil to dry.  For some reason, it's incredibly easy for me to blow through the break there if I'm not careful.  Because of that, I like to carry at least one ball with some texture, or a ball that revs up quickly but with a smooth surface (no polish).

One of my teammates is working the tournament this year.  I'll post his observations as I get them.

One that hits the pocket

Now to be serious, it's virutally impossible to really tell how the lanes will play from just reading the graph.  My experience is that you want a ball that has a predictable reaction, and depending on you style, that may be just about anything.  If you are not going until later in the tournament, talk to those who bowl earlier and can give you some idea of how they played the lanes and what kind of equipment they used.  I find that much more usefull than worrying about how to read the graph.  Since O don't go until the end of May, I've got plent of time to talk to people and read reports of the early bowlers.
