Bowled the Roto Grip Sports Challenge
« on: February 29, 2008, 01:25:27 AM »
Topic says it all.  My husband and I bowled this yesterday to get an idea of what our equipment would do on a sport shot.  The shot is about 4 feet shorter than the Open team shot.  Lots of oil between about 10 and 15, but if you tug it on either side, the ball's going to take off in the middle and go past Brooklyn.

I started throwing my two Hole Finders because I don't have anywhere in town that I can get a good read on them.  They were both too much ball on those lanes, but I'm thinking that the extra 4 feet of length in team might make one of them quite useful.

My spare shooting was terrible.  What I thought was a good shot would slide past the pin or chop off one of a two-pin conversion.  I'll need to adjust from my normal spare shooting formula.  First game I had two strikes and one spare, for a whopping score of 121.

Second game, I took out my Hole Pounder Solid, which is much weaker than either of the two Finders.  I figured by this time that I wasn't going to be part of the cashing group for the day, so I moved outside and shot up five.  There was a heck of a shot there.  I managed a couple of doubles packed around a nice spare before I suffered brain delay and opened badly in the sixth.  I recovered from that and managed to pull out a 181 with a split in the ninth.  I didn't think that was too bad for a 159 THS average.

I bowled this too while we were there a couple of weeks ago.  The shot on paper is two feet shorter, but you're right...it plays like it's 4 feet shorter.  The shot is definitely in the track, and you CANNOT grab the ball at all.  There is no miss left.  I threw my Paradigm with the pin down and played 9 to 6, if I missed left I had a touch of recovery..but absolutely no miss right.  I shot 415 and was second for the day, hopefully that will cash for the whole year.

Bar I think it was like $130...I tied with another guy bowling on our pair.  Not bad for only like 20 entries.  They have a couple of side pot deals like most clean frames in the day (I won with 19/20) and high game pots.  It's a fun event and a fantastic warm up before the big show.

Check out bowl.com on the USBC Nationals page. It is down there on the left hand side with other side tournaments going on. I believe the entry is 10 for daily and 50 for the yearly pots.

Close it's $50/day $10/year $10/sidepots $10/doubles

It's really a good tune up before you bowl the show, and its only two games, so if you pop a good game you can get in the money.  The guy that won the day I was there shot 267 the first game with like one pocket hit, and then shot 157 for 424.
