Title: Bowling Ball Express
Post by: dR3w on June 03, 2009, 05:17:10 AM
Does anyone know if BBE is offering five 4-Ball Boxes shipped for the price of four, like in years past?

I don't think so.
We went in March and we didn't use BBE mainly because we found a cheaper rate by shipping to our hotel to and from.

Yes, they are. Just got back - to and from ship 4 get 5th for free.
A little bit pricey, yes, but worth it for the convenience. Especially if you are not bowling any side tourneys.

Rob,
I could have sworn I called BBE and asked about it and they had told me they weren't doing it.
So we went a different direction.

I got off my lazy butt and called.  They told me yes they will, but it has to be 5 four ball boxes that are the same size and all filled.  No 19 or 18, etc ...  I don't necessarily understand why, since I would figure 18 to get cheaper for them, but I won't argue.  With that special, shipping will be about 16.75 a ball from Virginia.

take your balls to the local ups or fedex store and save yourself the handling fee!  There is a fedex close to the cashman.

I sent 4 out to vegas for 88.  When leaving, I just couldnt pay them again.  I sell balls on here and ebay and never shipped 4 for that much.  I checked the 3 ball roller at the airport and payed $25, and carried the 2 ball tote on the plane.  i felt vindicated.

If you are lucky enough to have a UPS account at work, go that route. The UPS Store can be twice as much as shipping through a UPS business account.

I priced out 3 balls to Vegas from the Northeast and it wasn't over $40.

I used my fedex account to ship 4 balls in totes to the Silver Nugget where the 123 is held and it cost me $42 total to ship them . BUT, it cost me $10 to get a taxi from Cashmen to pick them up and after shooting the 123 tournament,  it cost me $15 to have some barfly take me back to Cashmen to bowl the Nationals.

I had to carry 4 balls inside in 104 heat, and with a bad leg from my knee replacement to carry the balls all the way down to the lockers. So how much did I save? It cost me $73 to ship them back with BBE and had Kent Wagner who works part time for BBE box my stuff up when I was done. He is a great guy who remembered me from Reno.

I don't care what anyone says till you start carrying 4 balls all over Vegas, you ain't saving s---.

Well, things are never easy with shipping.  I looked into a couple of the options mentioned here.  First, shipping via FedEx Ground to a store/location to be held for you is not an option.  They won't hold a shipment.  They would send out for delivery and if nobody signs, they will hold it at their location.

Second, we are staying at the MGM suites, and they wanted a $30 per box handling fee for holding the boxes.  What a crock.  So much for customer service.

I was able to ship using FedEx Ground to a distant relative's house who lives in Vegas.  Through the "company account" the cost was $29 for a 4 ball box.  A little cheaper than the $78 for Bowling Ball Express.

All in all, a pain in the butt.  Perhaps Nationals will be on the East Coast some day.
