It's official!!!
« on: June 22, 2003, 06:48:42 AM »
Ron Bahr has won the singles title for the ABC National tournament.  His well known score of 237-300-300-837 held up through this, the last day of the tournament, and earned him the eagle.  Also, coming with it will be one of two (I believe) 100th anniversary commemorative 800 rings ever to be made.  And I know him!!!!

Ron's wife is on here a lot, and she speaks for him most of the time.  She's KB743.

He used the original Red Pulse, 16#.  But the good part was that he bowled his first game with a different ball.  Lol, which of you guys would switch to a different ball after bowling a 237 at ABC?

Congrats Ron, you've got something that will stay with you the rest of your life.  Every ABC tournament from now on you will walk on the lanes for team event and see that orange eagle next to your name and have your name announced in the squad room and on the lanes.  What a feeling!!!  Again great bowling!

Yep Ron, I'd have to say that you EARNED the Eagle award!  Bowling an 800 series in the ABC Nats is something that very few bowlers ever accomplish in a lifetime, as is bowling a 300 game in the ABC Nats.  And to bowl BACK TO BACK 300 games in the ABC Nationals is something that most never ever dreamed would happen.  Having bowled the ABC Nats several times myself, I can say that you accomplished a feat that even the Pros probably felt would never happen (and a lot of the Pros do bowl in the ABC Nats).

Yep, you definitely set a new achievement goal for bowlers who dare to step into the Nationals, where the lane conditions are really tough, and good scores are difficult to come by even on a good day.  I'm not sure what the highest 800 series is that's ever been shot in the ABC Nats, but 837 has to rank among the best series that have ever been turned in there.

Derek Sapp's 857 shot this year in doubles is the highest set shot in the ABC tournament itself.  The previous record was John Socha with 847.  Eric Forkel shot 874 in the 1997 Masters and Norm Duke also shot 857 in the 1989 masters.
