CHEATERS CAUGHT AT NATIONALS
« on: March 09, 2008, 09:18:02 AM »
I heard from a local bowler that just got back from Nationals that Columbia's Brand Manager, Chad Murphy, got caught trying to slip in with 3 PBA members. As soon sa they got done bowling they were DQ'd! Treats em' right.

How did they think they were going to get away with that? Nice move X-lax, try again next year.

Now if they could just do something about the SANDBAGGER leading all the Classified divisions it'd all be good!

Interesting,

This is the link to their team..

http://bowl.com/tournaments/usbcopen/National/resultssearch.aspx?tn=Wichita+Bowling+Sply+2&ti=1&ty=2008

I don't know Paul and Billy. I know Lonnie has his card. I know Brian doesn't have his card. I don't believe last I knew Chad had his card either. I guess it is possible Paul and Billy both do?! Interesting stuff if thats true. Thats a good team with some players!

Upon further looking, if you click on any of their names, you will see results from Singles/Doubles/All Events only

From what I had read, one of them had a card last year and dropped it.  It has not been 1 calendar year since he dropped.  It is in the rules that no more than 2 current pba members or bowlers who were members within 1 year of the tournament.

Brian just bowled the High Roller and A Game. No Card holder in the past year is allowed to bowl

Then perhaps someone should contact the TD about his status?

I bowled the Central Region stop at Cuyahoga falls last april... Brian was definitely a member, I checked the PBA website to be sure.

Dan,

Thanks for clearing that up...I thought the only way they (PBA members) couldn't bowl is if they were exempt.  I never knew there was a maximum of two PBA members per team.  I was confused reading.

Thanks again,
Jeff

Lonnie Brian PBA members. Billy dropped card last year.

They reported everything on the sheet, nothing was hidden, USBC dnd't spot it, they misinterpeted the rule of when you had to drop your card.

First of all, if in fact they listed everything on their entry form, could they really be considered cheaters?  From what I have read to this point, it sounds like it was USBC overlooking something and did not realize it until after they bowled.  Kind of sucks for their team as if USBC had caught it before hand, they may have been able to revamp the team so they could bowl.

This was an unfortunate situation, NOT a deliberate attempt to cheat. They filled out their form correctly and listed all the information and USBC took the form in and let them bowl. Team didn't understand rule correctly and USBC didn't catch it in time. Captain's responsibility to know the rules but would have been nice if USBC had seen the info and said wait you can't bowl with these three guys on the same team. Honest mistakes all around leading to a disqualification. Tough break for all involved. These are good guys who made an honest mistake and were penalized according to the rules.

This is the thread in the USBC forum on this topic (New team leader):

Brian very well could have bowled the A Game and the High Roller, There was a little glich in the rules some took advantage of and some didnt. The rule was not written how Edelman wanted it I guess and it stated if you are not currently a member of the PBA you can bowl...no time table was set on that rule.....could have dropped it on 12/31/07 and still bowled the High Roller as a NON member!

Well how exactly does this rule work?  There are guys I know that have their PBA cards, have bowled regionals and even a regular tour stop and are going to Albuquerque, went to Reno last year, and are going to Vegas next year, and apparently there's no problem with that?

If they filled everything out correctly and they let them in, it is not cheating.
