Comparing Practice & Journal to Teams & Minors

Hey fam, for the bowlers that hit up Nationals already, how would you compare practice and the Journal to the Team & Minor events?

Being that the practice session and BJ are at The Orleans, I wouldn't put too much stake into it.

I've got a practice session scheduled for my team, and we'll use it, but for us it's more of a get a few games in on a real pattern to loosen up when we get out there day before we bowl team. We bowl June 1-2, so i'll have feedback then.

We always go into team with a bit of a plan, but trust what your eyes see because you have to adapt quickly.

As is usually the case, the practice session gives you an idea as to how the pattern may play, but you shouldn't be married to it. For example, I had absolutely no look with my Idol during practice at The Orleans, yet I started Team with that ball and didn't put it away until the end of Game 1.

I didn't bowl the BJ, so I can't give any insight on how that compares to what you see during minors in the SP Bowling Center. Again though, to me, both patterns are softer than they have been in a few years. I'm not saying they're wide open and simple, but they are far less punitive as there is some extra hook out and more hold in. As I've said a few times now, the guys and gals who know how to read ball motion and who can execute/repeat shots are likely to put up some really big numbers this time around.

I haven’t bowled at the Orleans in a while but knowing the Plaza - it’s low friction. I would ***assume*** the Orleans has more friction and the practice pairs are going to be a little more open (team). I could absolutely see an Original Idol be way too much at the Orleans yet be the right ball at the Plaza as Gene just said.

As for the BJ to minors...the wild card here is Southpoint’s bowling center surface. Usually lots of friction at the Center so I could see these potentially be similar.

I go middle of June and have a practice session reserved. Guess I’ll find out in 6 weeks.
