Let's take them off

With the CDC directive on masks and now several states, including Nevada no longer requiring masks for those who are vaccinated, will Chad still require it?

CDC estimates that influenza was associated with more than 35.5 million illnesses, more than 16.5 million medical visits, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths during the 2018–2019 influenza season - CDC.gov

The flu vaccine has been around since the 1930s and yet we say and do nothing when 35 million people are getting the flu every year.  The only reason we freak out over COVID is simply because it is new and there was not a vaccine.  And now that there is, people still freak out.  People need to stop and relax a bit.  Thousands of people every single day go out in to public and even to work with flu/cold symptoms. They touch door handles and even shake hands with other people.

How many of us when we get the flu or a sinus infection during peak season do we lay around blaming other people?  Last I checked it is our own responsibility to wash our hands, change out air filters, and take other precautions.  If you want to wear a mask then wear one.  If you dont, then dont.  But if after 17 months and millions of people vaccinated you are still that scared of getting it, then stay home because crying about it doesnt solve anything.  Live free, take care of yourself and your loved ones, and BE HAPPY!!!!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.....Seriously man.  I figured instead of arguing over it why not take a different approach?  Arguing over COVID is almost as bad as arguing if CGs matter at this point.  A year ago it was worth discussing because it was something we had never seen or dealt with before.  But now we are approaching 18 months with this.  The one thing we all need now is normalcy and some freedom back in our lives.  As someone else mentioned....this is never going away now.  So we might as well live with it in the same manner we live with the flu and other illnesses.  Yes, some are worse than others.  But if we are not freaking out over the flu, then why now freak out over COVID?  We have learned key adjustments we can take to live with it.  Now it is time for "We the People" to make our own decisions and get back to being happy with our lives.

People make a mockery of Florida (where I currently reside).  But the result of all this and our Governor, we are thriving once again and roughly 400,000 people have moved here from other states just in the last year.  Housing market is absolutely nuts down here and apartment/condo development (at least in my county) is off the charts.  County Commissioner had to put a stop to it because so much was going up and he wants to reserve land for corporate development/expansion and preservation.  Almost half the state is vaccinated and the rate of positive cases is at its lowest in quite some time.  In fact, most of the positive cases are more inner city and downtown areas (Hillsborough County in Tampa and Broward County near Miami).  You go out in to public areas and for the most part everyone is courteous and pleasant to be around with the exception of a few people still crying about the issue of people not wearing masks.  Heck, even alligators are seen at Wendys now (They hungry too!)🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I am totally in agreement with you and have felt the same way since the beginning of this.

But being in California, we are a bunch of idiots and lemmings, so we continue to suffer. Here in Stockton where I live, one of the two bowling alleys in town is open and the other is not. For what reason I have no idea.

Interest observation this weekend. Watched college softball regional tournaments off and on and who would have thunk it, no one was wearing a mask. The stands were full at Rhodes Stadium in Tuscaloosa and not a mask to be seen anywhere and no physical distancing.

Oh the horror....

Just a follow-up, no dead bodies in the stand afterwards. Must have been a conservative crowd.

Milo.....amazing.  Isnt it?  As a Braves fan and watching a couple games this weekend on TV, the stadium was at full capacity.  To hear the crowd go nuts after Acuna hit the walk off homer one night, a grand slam the following game, and hit a leadoff homer on the first pitch the game after that was awesome to see and hear.  It almost felt like a playoff atmosphere after going the last 12 months with deafening silence.

The mask debate will go on forever. States like NY, NJ, CA, MI, MN, IL had mask mandates and Draconian lockdowns and yet the virus raged. Other states did not and had lesser outbreaks and lower death rates. It is not anyone's responsibility to protect anyone besides themselves and their loved ones. It's your responsibility to take precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones. Nobody was asking others to protect them during H1N1. That was very contagious and caused deaths, not on the level of Covid19, but deadly just the same. Obama or the CDC didn't ask people mask to protect others. Hell, they took forever and thousands of deaths to call it a pandemic. We weren't told it was our responsibility to protect others. You haven't given a rat's rear end worrying about who was sick or could be infected during flu seasons past. You high fived, yelled and were in close proximity while bowling. You never knew if your flu case could kill you, much like Covid19, where the overwhelming amount of people have it affect them like a bad cold. When this is pretty much over as it seems it is now, will you still crap your pants if someone around you has a cough or the sniffles? The Chinese did a great job, this thing is never going away, get used to it and move on!

Well said.  For all the people that love your masks, you should continue wearing them for the rest of your life to protect everyone else.  As TDC57 mentioned, think of all the people you may have killed over the years by spreading the flu or other asymptomatic disease that you carried.

TWOHAND834 is from Florida and from what I have seen Florida has been mostly open for the entire time during the pandemic.  We were lead to believe that COVID is a scary deadly disease and I would think by what the media and politicians have said that half of Florida should have died by now.  Doing my own research I don't see that Florida is any worse than any other state that destroyed peoples' livelihood and economies to try to save lives.  I would love to see the media start counting how many people die in the bathtub, shower, or on the toilet and see how many people become scared sh!tless to go in the bathroom.

Hey, J_W!!!!  Florida did shut down for a period of time.  We just opened up quicker than everyone else.  All the theme parks were closed pretty much all the way through the summer months.  Then when they did reopen, you had to purchase tickets online so that was their way of controlling how many people entered the parks. There were some tense moments down here with crowds getting out of control and some restaurants/bars had their liquor license suspended because they did not adhere to the social distancing guidelines.  Example was the Super Bowl this year.

The biggest difference dealing with the Pandemic was the awesome job our Governor did.  He shut down access to nursing homes and hospitals from day 1.  Secondly, he shut down beaches for quite some time as well because Spring Breakers would have torn this state apart.  Some people still broke the guidelines and were dealt with accordingly.  The only reason COVID really got out of control was because of the rioting that went on last year after George Floyds death as well as Breonna Taylor.  The curve had flattened and our positivity rates had been cut in half.  Then the rioting occurred and the rates spiked back up. Florida was one of the quickest to react to the COVID news so therefore we were also the quickest to reopen.

I just went to Disney this past weekend and it was pretty much at max capacity.  Went to a place called Disney Springs (which I highly recommend if anyone comes to the Orlando area).  It is free to park and free to enter the grounds.  It only costs money if you eat and/or shop.  Some people wore masks and others did not.  Only time you had to wear one is if you walked in to a place to do some shopping.  The atmosphere was extremely pleasant.  Everyone was polite and was just excited to be back outdoors and experiencing some normalcy. As a side note......due to the restrictions on travel with Canada, both Toronto teams (Raptors and Blue Jays) are here in Tampa playing their "home games".  But I believe the Blue Jays are in the process of heading back up to Buffalo.

Well I guess that is another reason to not believe the news.  The way it looked from here in California was that everything was open in Florida after the initial 2 months of lock down.

I heard a great story of how some immigrants from China were completely surprised that Americans still watched and believed what was broadcasted on the news.  Because in China they know it is all government propaganda and just ignore it.

Always have to take what you hear on the news with a grain of salt.  Instead of picking each other up, they make a living trying to make the other side look as bad as possible.  Remember the boat parades for the Lightning when they won the Cup and Bucs after they won the Super Bowl?  Instead of closing down streets and having the traditional parade, they found a way to celebrate with their fans all while doing it with little to no risk.  Here is where the news looks stupid.  Remember when Brady tossed the trophy from his boat to Gronk over on another boat?  Well the media tried to say the Bay at that point was like 80 feet deep.  "Can you imagine having to dive 80 feet to retrieve the Lombardi Trophy?"  Truth be told, that area is only about 10 feet and the deepest part is around 12 feet.  It is like having boats in a really large swimming pool and there were divers on site during the event.

Regarding deaths by COVID, California has had almost 62,000.  New York has had about 53,000.  Florida.........36,000.  Now Florida has the third largest population in the US behind California and Texas and 2,000,000 more than New York.  Yet, we have significantly fewer deaths than CA and NY, not to mention we lead the entire US in percentage of the population being seniors and over 65 (30% and 19% respectively).  Yet, listening to the media, it is like Florida be damned!!!!

The biggest lesson I learned from this pandemic, is that at some point, just live and be happy.  Life is too short.  The media as a whole has no personal interest in your life.  They just have a job to do like anyone else and we all know it is biased.  Live free, be happy, and lift each other up.  Makes our world a much better place to be.
