Anybody using freight shipping....
« on: May 10, 2006, 02:56:18 PM »
....to ship their balls to Corpus Christi? If so, are both FedEx and UPS available for that service? What are prices like?

I remember one of the carriers being present at Baton Rouge, I just can't remember which one.

Hey JesseJames,

You can ship your balls directly to the convention center in CC.  Go to the USBC
tournament website or click on this link:  http://www.bowl.com/tournaments/usbcopen/national/shipping.aspx

The bowling ball express service uses UPS.  I am using this service for the first time this year (I am bowling June 19 and 20).  I am from the Baltimore area and I priced sending four 15 lb balls at a little over $20, plus a handling fee of $12.  You pay when you pick up your balls at the convention center.  You can also ship your balls back home using the service too.

Good luck in CC!

I've shipped some of my equipment each of the last three years using the ABC/USBC shipping service.  I have found it is a good way to make sure my stuff gets there, but it's also nice having less to lug around airports.  The staff that work the USBC shipping booth are really helpful in getting your stuff for you and then helping you pack it up to send it back home.  You pay for the service and it's not particularly cheap but it it's very convenient.

I utilized the service for the first time this year and it was definately easier than lugging the balls around the airport, etc.  Unless you plan on bowling the Journal, 40 frame or BTM I would suggest getting your equipment early and just dumping it off in a locker after checking it over and making sure your thumb / fingers fit (incase of swelling, etc.).  Another tip would be to just leave your balls in totes and place them directly into the overshipper.  I also had some ball bags (soft pouches that companies like Dyno-Thane use on their higher end stuff) to keep the balls extra protected.
