For those that have been to CC.....
« on: February 27, 2006, 08:01:52 PM »
This is the NON bowling related topic.

Where did you eat?  Was it good/bad/okay?

What hotel did you stay in??  Good/bad/okay?

What area attractions did you attend/do??

Whataburger - good
Texas Roadhouse - good
Outback - good
Landry's - good (a little pricy, but good seafood)

Comfort Suites - S. Padre Island Drive
Good place... great breakfast (waffles, eggs, cereal, and asst cold stuff).  Rooms average though, not as big as other Comfort Suites I've been at, but acceptable.

Didn't do much as far as other attractions.

Stayed at the Ramada Inn Bayfront...Big time dump.
Rooms were worn out, needed refurbishing.

Ate breakfast there twice...fodd was not to good.
Ate at the restaurant in the Omni Marina Hotel (can't remember the name), had blackened Salmon, garlic mashed potatoes, salad, soup, apple pie for $22.00 (good food).

Ate other meals at the Bank Center, which was typical convention center venue food...hot dogs.

Other activities, watched 3 days worth of bowling at the Bank Center.
Which brought me to the conclusion that most bowler's are pretty clueless.
Myself included....

stayed at radisson nice 79$ a nite / blackbeards

Just got back...  stayed in the days inn just down the street from the radisson (across the bridge from the bowling building).  It was an absolute dump, but what do you expect for $50 a night?  It had a "free" breakfast consisting of a few pastries with flies on them, stale fruit loops, and coffee.  We ate a couple nights at Blackbeards down the street.  OK food, but its more of a bar atmosphere.  Good for ordering a few beers...  another night we went to U&I which was a few blocks from bowling.. a little pricey.. I had filet which was pretty good, but the other guys didn't care for their dinners.  Our last night in town we went to the Water Street Seafood Co and had an EXCELLENT dinner.  Everything was wonderful there...I would suggest it.

Omni Marina $99 a night.
Room-a little dated but clean with great view of marina.movies and internet in room xtra charge.Local paper at door every morning and pre-checkout bill slipped under door on day of checkout.

Amenities-indoor/outdoor pool heated with large deck in and out with nice view and bar(closed til April?).Nice workout room(bottled water and fresh fruit supplied in AM).Jacuzzi so-so but drained and scrubbed daily. You have full use of all the facilities at the sister Omni Bayfront that are bigger and better one building away.If you seriously work out use them.

Lobby has a bar that was created especially for the bowlers. They installed a pool table, video games,a poker table complete with casino quality cards and chips, foosball and a popcorn machine(free).Domestic beer was $2.75 but all else typical hotel prices.

Transportation-Airline shuttle and shuttle to center both fast and free.

Peeps-These people need our business and want us to know it.Very friendly and accomadating.

Food- Landry's Excellent $$$$$
      Waterstreet Seafood Co. Excellent $$$$
      Executive Surf Club Excellent $$$
      Thai Cuisine Excellent $$$$
      Crwadaddy's Excellent $$$
Also ate breakfast at the diner across the street every day and was very satisfied. There is a Mexican restraunt a coupla blocks down that is very good and reasonable.Don't remember the name but it has a wooden porch out front.

Party life-This was regulated to walking distance from hotel and was pretty much nonexistant due to time of year and week. Many of the bars were only open thurs-sat and we were sun-wed.Having said that...
Best place to get a beer-Mulligan's
Best place to party-Dr. Rockit's especially when local act Monkeys doin it perform.Place don't get goin til after 11 so take a nap.
Best place to eat and party-Crawdaddy's also best souvineer t-shirt.This place gets it and it was too bad there wasn't more like this.

Streets were clean and safe.Overall impression was a quiet older community in need of a shot of new blood.A might too laid back this time of year. Many vacant buildings leads one to believe a choosen few are making money and want it to stay that way.

PS If they serve food as primary income there is usually a no smoking policy.
