there is somekind of service idk how it works though. people did it for junior gold. but my team just went to vegas and what we did was check a triple tote and your luggage and carry on a double and what ever other carry on we had. there is a 50lb pound limit for checked stuff. 3 15lb bowling balls in a tote came out to about 48.5lbs so it works. anything over that they charge. this was on south west airlines.

A bunch of my guys went out last year and they sent their balls out to the hotel via UPS.  They had called the hotel beforehand to see if they were accepting packages such as this so the balls were there for them when they arrived for the tournament.  Obviously, the hotels in the area know what's going on, so they are prepared.

Don't quote me on the price, but I think it cost them somewhere between 50-60 bucks to do it.

I bought one of the Roto Grip 3 ball roller tote's and with 3 15lb balls it is  under 50lbs total. The accessory and shoe compartments are connected with velcro so I am going to remove those and put them in my luggage.

I don't know if that's the case on all airlines but on Southwest which I will be taking you can. Below is Southwest's policy.

Weight and Size Allowance: Maximum weight is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height) per checked piece of luggage. Effective March 1, 2005, overweight items from 51 to 70 pounds will be accepted for a charge of $25.00 per item. Items weighing from 71 to 100 pounds and oversized items in excess of 62 inches but not more than 80 inches (i.e., surfboards, bicycles, vaulting poles) will be accepted for a charge of $50.00 per item. Any item weighing more than 100 pounds must be shipped as Air Cargo. However, Customers cannot use SWA Cargo unless classified as a Known Shipper as defined by the TSA or TSA approved Indirect Air Carriers (IAC). For full details about shipping cargo, visit swacargo.com.

Just use Bowling Ball Express through the USBC website. It's about 60 bucks for a four ball box, and the balls are right there in the convention center. I've used it for the past 4 or 5 years, and it's great.

Go to the tourney website and look for the link at the left.

I checked Bowling Ball Express and it came out to $68.00 each way for 3 balls (50lb).

BBE is way overpriced and it takes too long to get your stuff there and back.  For the money you are better off with UPS or Fed EX.

When I was going to nationals we would get ahold of the hotel and ship our equipment direct to them. In Reno it was really easy since most of the hotels had rooms set up for stuff to be shipped there and held for a day or two. When we got to the hotel after checking in we would go and pick up our equipment. After we were done and time to ship back we just repackaged everything and brought back to their shipping area.
With the way airlines are charging for everything I would not use them except as a last choice.

Actually it is more cost effective to pay the extra cost to ship all your balls via the airline when you fly.

BBE charges a fee for handling where UPS won't, I have used both and UPS\FedEx is cheaper by far.

If you know where your staying, you could ask them if they accept shipments directly to the hotel, give yourself about a week to let them get there and ship them UPS or USPS, bring your shoes in your luggage and a couple of 2 ball totes.

Thats what I have done in the past

I used Bowling Ball Express last year and had no issues with the time of shipping.  I liked the fact that I could pick up the bowling balls at the site and when I was finished  bowling all the events, pack them up and ship them back home.  It was relieving not having to lug the bowling balls to and from the airport and worry about baggage weight limits, baggage handling, etc.
