Good golf courses in Albuquerque????
« on: January 21, 2008, 02:54:52 AM »
We were looking into some packages to golf while we are there in early April. I was looking at Univ. of New Mexico course and Paa-Ko Ridge? I was told that Paa-Ko was airating the greens right ahead of us arriving? Do they sand them pretty heavy like we do in the midwest? Is there any locals that might have some suggestions on where to play and discount packages or players card discounts? Any InSite would be appreciated.

Played the UNM course last time we were there. Nice course and everything breaks toward the city.

If you are going to play golf I would recommend:

City Courses:
Los Altos
Ladera
Arroyo Del Oso

For a step above the City Courses:
Sandia Resort
Isleta Eagle(probably the best value)
Santa Ana
Pueblo De Cochiti(half way between albq and santa fe)

All are excellent courses and if you want to pay a little more for the ultimate golf experience in the albuquerque area then give Paako Ridge located on the eastside of the Sandia Mountains a try it's absolutely gorgeous.

Aeration here in the southwest isn't as sandy as the midwest but still not optimal for putting.

Played Paa-Ko Ridge my last day there (4/2) and while the greens were sandy, they played ok. The course was in great shape, otherwise. We played at 8 AM and it was a little cold to start but warmed up nicely.

For those who are going now, the greens should be in good shape, and it's worth the trip and a little extra cost if you are a golfer.

I agree. We played UNM championship course on Sunday 4-6 and really loved the course. Very challenging course with very fast greens. We played Paa-Ko Ridge on Monday 4-7 9am and like others said it was a bit cool. What a beautiful course! I can only imagine how nice it will be in a month when it has a bit more time to green up. The views are spectacular and by far the nicest course i've ever played! Make sure and play it if forced to make a choice to play just one. If you can play 2 UNM was also a good course to play.

I played Paa-Ko Ridge while I was out there.  They had just done the greens and while those weren't the best, the course was absolutely gorgeous.  I was glad we were there when it was cool out as I wouldn't want to be looking for my ball in the warmth near all those snake holes...

Definately a tough course to play but some of the views are unbeatable.  The price was well worth it to me.  I believe we payed $90 for 18 holes, a cart, and rental clubs.

The course will definately remain special with the group I was with as one of our guys hit a hole-in-one on #14, first round of the year.

I played the UofM course.  It was in spectacular condition considering it was early in the season.  The greens were blazing fast and in superb condition.

I'd play there again.
