My Vegas experience............................
« on: April 01, 2009, 05:08:35 AM »
I just got back to Fargo from Vegas---back to a "flizzard" from 70's and watching bikinis all day at the pool .
1. Team---fresh oil--8:30P.M.---ANYTHING outside of the far rangemarker---10 board---never got back,or barely touched the head pin. Washouts and 6 or 7 counts on the first ball. Spares were the name of the game. My down fall came from trying to place the ball into the pocket and not let the ball work. Saw one guy two lanes over with good hand start with 267----finished with 180 and 156.
2. Doubles----11:30 P.M.--Deep was the name of the game---started 15 to 8---ended up 19-20 to 8 to keep the ball on the right side of the head pin.
3. Singles---followed four bowlers we were watching in between shots ----all four were playing different lines from straight up the 5 board to someone trying to play deep with revs and slow ball speed. Translation: carrydown like I've never seen before. Struggled again with shot placement.
Basically my own fault for not executing. The shot is there and hittable. Patience is the name of the game.
Hotel: MGM Grand----great rooms with good size bathrooms. No room service was used by any of us,so no comments can be made about it. The buffet wasn't the best in the world. Breakfast was 15.62 with tax,and nothing special. Lunch and dinner was 24 plus. I didn't eat either of those meals there. There is McDonalds in the Walkway---same prices everywhere. Ilardo's pizza isn't too bad. Stay away from the pan crust. It's crunchy and ruins the taste of the toppings. Good size slices. Two makes a good meal.
One of our group who brought his wife went to see Criss Angel and Cirque du Soleil. According to him,the show was "fantastic and worth seeing again".
Ball Booths---------------Many shirt deals avilable from all booths.         K&K---Hammer was selling two ball combos for a pretty good price. Hammer ANGER and PSYCHO were together for under 200 if I remember right. There were other combos available. One of our party bought an Anger and said the service was "top notch and very personable".
Brunswick---good deals on many balls,to include Visiballs in many styles. Good overseas choices available, too. The best thing about the Brunswick booth is they're the ONLY booth to stay open past about 9 P.M. local time,so they're making a killing with later business.
Storm--seemed really busy. Good reason is that I saw MANY MANY Virtual Gravities being thrown,as well as Cells of all three makes. Good, quick service there.
Visionary---seemed busy as well. Resurfacing deal of 20 for one ball was advertised. Immortal pearls were on sale at 159.
Gift shop at Cashman Center was good in that I ordered a shirt and had my name put on the back and they had it ready the next day. Taxis are expensive--$ 23.00 from the airport to MGM. Rent a car or ride the "Deuce"
as the city bus is called----$ 3.00 per day---good for 24 hours.
Subway---one of our group mistakenly got a sub from one of the shops there on the Strip---$14--you read that right---for a normal $ 5.00 sub.
Overall a great experience. I'm personally not happy with the way I bowled, and have things to work on. I'll never blame the lanes. As I said, the shot is there. Just use patience.

Well I'm glad to see you had a good time here anyway. Also thanks for the insight for the 11:30 d/s as my wife and I are bowling that squad in June.

As a general rule, get off the Strip to eat or do anything else.  Food is
better and you will not be gouged as a tourist.
