Ok I am starting to think something is up at the USBC. Why is it that all the big names this year seem to be bowling on the middle end pairs? Red Carpet Team and Linds Team as well at the Turbo Team. Now I log on and for singles and doubles some of the older tour guys like Sttelsmith are getting those pairs. anyone else find this ironic?

I WAS ON THOSE PAIRS AND I AM NOBODY SPECIAL
-
Sorry to hijack, but can someone provide a link to find individual lane assignments?

i didnt find a link but just by watching the posted videos online I could see lane assignments and in reference to the nobody special post not every squad has "special" bowlers. Just seems to be a common theme this year thats all.

Been that way for any number of years. Logic dictates "follow the money".
For the nay-sayers and the innocents, "live and learn".

Hmmm, the big names getting the middle pairs. That would explain why I was on the far right in team event last year and then the far left in D/S. I'm hoping noone other than my teammates saw my team event scores anyway.
-
maybe it's because those teams were shown live streaming. that way the usbc wouldn't have to set up all over the building?
-
Go back and read Riggs report on S&D. Sounds like the the group in front of them was were in the classified division and spraying it all over the place. If the USBC really wanted to give them any sort of advantage - I'm guessing they would not have had them following a classified team.

It seems to me that unless you have bowled the tournament for a lot of years straight you aren't getting any kind of a break as far as lane assignments and times to bowl go. We have bowled only the last 2 years and got stuck out on the outer lanes both times and had to bowl singles/doubles at that ridiculous 11:30 pm slot this year. It's not right. They cater to the better bowlers for sure.

I think sport300 has the answer.

If your team captain had sent in the FULL entry fees early, you would not be bowling at 11:30 at night. D/S squads are filled on a first pay basis.
-
That's not true. I was the captain and the fees were paid for early.

I am on the Red Carpet Lanes team. I was told we were put on the aisle pair for team because of the special champions introduction for Linds Limited.

I am not sure why we were on 29-30. First time we've ever been on that pair and in minors we were on 39-40 & 37-38. Other years we've been as low as 7-8 and as high as in the 50s.
I would think one issue with our teams is being in front of the stands, which go to about mid 30s -- they were filled behind our pair when we bowl and if we were, say, in the 50s there might be some logistical crowd issues.

If you honestly think they are playing favorites, then I have a bridge to sell you in NY...cheap.
The answer I think is multi-faceted:
1) As Dave Beres said (Congratulations on a great performance by you and your teammates sir) partly due to the introduction of last year''s winning team, logistics make it easier to give them a pair next the aisle, so they don''t walk down 40 lanes while practice is starting, or delay practice while they do it when time is already compromised.
2) All the teams/individuals being streamed would be concentrated on the same sets of lanes so that the camera and set-up wouldn''t have to be moved all over the place or have multiple set-ups all over the stadium.
3) Bleacher seats are concentrated in section of the Stadium. These teams draw the biggest crowds, so it makes sense they are concentrated where the bleachers are to accomodate the larger crowd.
Now let me add, I am not naive enought to think that if Riggs, or Mr. Beres team asked for something to happen that was within the rules of the tournament, that they wouldn''t get first preference over other teams. Fair or not, maybe, maybe not.
As far as the 11:30 D/S shift, I think it comes down to 2 things, how quickly you get your money in, and the dates you select. There are groups with as many as 60 teams all coming together. If you select a day that includes a group like this, you may be bumped to the 11:30 D/S squad so that they can bowl together for D/S, or have the most of them they can do that, regardless of when you got your money in. Also, a lot of teams pay for next year''s entry fee, at this year''s tournament. So even if you sent you final installment into the USBC early, depending on how many paid on site, you could get bumped to the 11:30 D/S squad. The only favoritism they may be is that they would want to avoid having the more watched teams on the 11:30 squad as to assure the most people the opportunity to watch them. Is that favoritism to the team, or to the spectators??? I say more for the spectators then anything.
Just my .02.

Here is something I have not shared anywhere that speaks to this topic.
When I sent our sheets in we split our guys 4 on 11:40 a.m. and 6 on 5:30 p.m. for minors. On my sheet it specifically was written to please have our 4 and 2 guys at 5:30 p.m. flip with each other for minors -- a pretty standard request.
I screwed up when I got all the sheets and didn''t notice that while we were on adjacent pairs for doubles they were NOT adjacents that flipped with EACH OTHER.
I didn''t notice it until Saturday morning -- the day we bowled minors -- when 11:40 guys were bowling. I wento to Kevin Olson at the registration desk and he looked up the sheet I sent in and saw what I had written and said that should not have happened. He offered to talk to some other folks on pairs in that area about possibly switching so we could flip. But before they arrived he had spoken to his superior Roger who overruled him and said they didn''t want to do that because it could appear that something funny was going on. I had said we didn''t want anything done that would appear funny but since we had the request in writing from long before we bowled it didn''t seem out of line if anyone said something about it. But I also agreed with Roger that it was probably best not to do anything because if we did bowl great in minors it could like something was done in our favor.
So in this case USBC bent over backward NOT TO DO ANYTHING FOR OUR GUYS!
Hardly what the conspiracy theorists might suggest.
