Quick Opinion On My Nationals Arsenal: Please Help! :)
« on: April 28, 2011, 05:41:43 AM »
Hey guys, I leave for Reno this weekend and I'm starting to pack my bags.  First off I throw 16 lbs, so I can't put more than two balls in any given suitcase or ball bag.  I initially wanted to take four balls, but after checking the weight the only way I can do that is by adding another bag to my load.  I don't really want to do this, so I'm leaning towards taking a ball out to just make my life easier.  Here are the balls in question:

Storm Virtual Gravity: 4 by 4 pin up with a 2 inch pin buffer.  Currently 4000 sanded.

Columbia Rival: Drilled pin up 5 inch pin to PAP, CG straight down, box finish, only 6 games on the ball.

Columbia Freeze Blue/Red: Drilled RICO, currently 2000 sanded.

Columbia Freeze Black/Red: Driled pin up, 5 1/2 pin to PAP, CG kicked into the palm.  Currently 4000 + High Gloss Polish.

I was kinda leaning on taking out the RICO Freeze, its a great ball, but I feel like might overlap the Rival as far as hook potential.  The reaction I get from the RICO drilling is like nothing else in my bag.  I don't really want to take out my Rival, my old one was my favorite ball I've ever put in my hands, and the thought of throwing one with only 6 games makes me want drool.  But if I take out the RICO Freeze, I'm left with 3 pin up balls, and as I recall, I remember a lot of success being posted on here with pin down equipment.  Did anyone throw a ball with a RICO drilling at Nationals, and if so, what kind of reaction and success did you see?

Any opinions will be greatly appreciated, and I'm not sure if you guys will need my specs, but I'll give them to you.  My PAP is 6" over and a 1/4" up.  I have very little axis tilt, my ball speed is usually 16.5 - 17.0 mph (quibica), and i havent had my RPM's officially calculated, but an educated guess would be somewhere between 375-425.  Thanks guys!

505T      65x4.5x30        Pin up 4000

I never ran into the heads really burning up......I will tell you the Nano was too strong off the spot on the fresh game 1, but was a beast in the carry down,

All I can tell is what I brought

3.5 pin under sanded 1000

mutant cell pin over sanded 2000

900 G S70 Break pearl polished

Spare Ball

Used 3.5 in team 1st game only. it lost energy and hit like a pillow. Went to the 900 G  shot good with it. rest of the tourney Only used the cell in practice never saw a chance to use it.

Dbls & Singles used the 900G  shot ok to good with it. For dbls I needed something about 4000 pin over

Rt handed

Specs 17 to 18 mph 350-375 revs

Cats done at Kegal

I'd lean toward the VG (just to have something strong), the Rival (something that you can trust), and the Rico Freeze (to have something different), then pick up a cheap plastic ball for spares while you're out there.  Pay to have it shipped back or leave it there if it's not worth the hassle.
