MOtion Hole at Nats
« on: April 02, 2015, 04:07:42 PM »
I know that the answer is yes, and I know it is probably an obvious question, but there is one thing worse than asking an obvious question, and that is hauling equipment 500 miles to find out that you guessed wrong. I'm also not interested in a debate on the need for a MOtion hole on a short pattern like nationals, so please restrain yourselves. For a 250 rev lefty who has never crossed over in 25 years, it may be an interesting idea.

That having been said, I assume a Motion hole is legitimate for nationals?

Thanks in advance
L50.

As long as the ball meets the static weight limits the ball is legal. You may want to have your local pro shop just double-check it to make sure.

That was my assumption also Jorge. Thanks for the response. If I do decide to take one just to fill a spot in the bag, and if it does cross over, something that's never happened to me at Nats, I'll probably put on my mantle as a trophy...   :)

Lefty50,

I used a MOtion hole layout at Nationals last year (Brunswick Meanstreak Brawler; pin over ring finger CG in grip center, 7/8" diameter MOtion hole), and I had no problems at the scale room.  As Jorge300 mentioned, have your pro shop weigh it just to be on the safe side.

I practiced on both the Team and Doubles/Singles pattern last weekend.  This house has put out the shot for the last couple of years, and every year, it plays very close to what I've seen at Nationals.  That being said, I had a very good look with my Meanstreak Brawler and a Yeti with a MOtion hole (pin over ring finger, 1" diameter MOtion hole, surface at 1000/3000 Abralon).  I plan on practicing again, and if I'm able, I'll try and post a video of a couple of shots.
