My 2008 nationals experience -Team event
« on: February 20, 2008, 04:03:53 AM »
I thought bowling opening ceremonies would be cool.  Well it wasn't what I had hoped.  We were scheduled to bowl at 7pm but didn't get started until about 8pm.  There was way too much talking.  Although, we did get a laugh from this years Joebowler.  We could tell he didn't want the attention.  It is suppose to be put on bowltv on bowl.com.  I can't seem to find it on there though.  I wanted to listen to some of his responses because they were pretty funny.  Anyway, I can say I bowled opening ceremonies.  Can't say I will ever want to bowl it again.

I was disappointed by my performance but I wasn't surprised.  Shot 546 team, 555 doubles and 570 singles.
Only bowling 1 THS league for the past 3 years has affected my accuracy along with other important skills needed to bowl good at Nationals.

To give some idea as to my style bowling, my normal THS line is around 10 board at arrows, swinging out no further than 6-7 board.  I would say I have slower speed with low/med revs.

At practice and to start team even, I was using my Resurgence(OOB).  I tried playing the line Pat Patterson said he played during sweepers, which was up 5 board with little swing.  Resurgence was bitting the lane too early for me and taking off brooklyn.  I tried more speed but then the ball would just skid and not make the turn, barely hitting the 3 pin.  After a few frames of struggling to find something with the Resurgence, I then switched to my Apogee.  This ball is at 4000 grit abralon. I played 10 board at arrows swinging out to 7-8 boards and trying to hit darker brown board at 45' which was also the 10 board. If I did everything right and hit there, it was pretty much a strike.  Problem was, getting it there.  I threw probably 4 good shots that game, luckily I threw a good shot followed by brooklyn strike, then another good shot for a turkey which after having missed a spare and leaving a split, helped me get 184 for the 1st game.  Second game, my speed was either too slow or too fast or I would mis my mark.  I threw maybe 3 good shots that game for a 152.  Last game of team event I moved in a little deeper playing 11-12 board at arrows out to about 8-9 and again tried to hit darker brown board at 45' down the lane.  Threw 6-7 good shots that game and ended with 210.  I left two ten pins with good pocket hits that game but covered them.  The lanes were touchy.  If at 45' mark I was 1 1/2 boards right, I would mis the head pin.  If left of that by 1/2-1 board, it would go through the nose.

I donated $50 to brackets, although my team mate shot a lower series and made $110.  He went 188, 189, 162. Luck of the draw and shoot your lowest game last I guess.

I bowled on the Sweeper shot as well, and I believe the shot is there, just have to make sure the timing is good.  I only shot 540 on the shot but I learned that the timing in my game is way off and need to practice more.

I also learned that all ball have to have some surface on them in order to get any reaction.  Now, I dont mean to say this for everyone to do it, just for my game, I need some surface on my stuff.

I still think the shot is around the 5 board, but dont want to get it out any more, no less than the 8 board.
