My 2014 USBC Tournament recap
« on: March 18, 2014, 10:41:47 AM »
So in the typical, good, bad, ugly here is my run down.

Starting with the ugly, my spare game, missed two single pins, chopped three makeable spares in 9 games, left a lot out there.

Then the bad, my ball choice, twice I made the wrong ball change, in team I had a good look on the fresh and never found the right piece to give me a big scoring look for the next two. Then again after doubles, I made a ball change to start singles and really cost myself in the opening game of singles.

Finally the good, overall as negative as I am with myself I did throw a few strikes and get some breaks. Team event I shot 583 (221-184-178), Doubles 658 (200-224-234), and Singles 615 (170-225-220) for an AE total of 1856. Now that number isn't large, but for me being a house hack i'm pretty okay with it, made some money in brackets and look to in position to cash in ever event though not very high in any.

So for the details, Team pattern on the fresh played excellent up 9/10 board for me with a rolly layout Sigma Sting at 3000. Due to the team I crossed with and people on my pair not working together a lot of dull hook monsters were thrown all over the place and I never really found a look when my line started to dry up, and my execution with little miss room resulted in two games that were sloppy and low.

Doubles/Singles I started with a Pin up Cruel Intent at 3000 and didn't move til the end of game three of doubles, I had a very good look playing around 13-10, and creeping in as it went on. I made the wrong ball change to start singles and split a few times. Towards the end of that game I got out a Shiny Covert Revolt and had a look everyone should dream of having. My 225-220 finish in singles should have been 250+ each game with the look I had inside, I left a couple bad break single pins, and just errantly tossed a few shots, and missed two spares leaving a ton of pins and money out there. As the games went on in minors I was just targeting the further outside range finder and crept in, was aiming about 22 at the arrows at the end.

Overall patterns played pretty soft in my opinion, I am not a great bowler so the fact I had error room on the fresh of both patterns I really feel like there will be some monster scores shot as the higher caliber teams make it out.

Hope this can help some of you guys and if you have any questions feel free to ask

Thanks for the report. I have to agree with you. We put out the D/S shot the other day for the first time and I can see some high scores getting put up consistently if bowlers breakdown the shot correctly.

When we put out sport shots our lanes seem to give a little more hook and when I threw on it, if I would have kept my games clean  I could have thrown a couple 240+ games

Nice report. I am a little more than a month away, so I'm trying to soak up info to help me with ball selection. The whole thing is hilarious because if I'm throwing the ball well, I'll probably need no more than 2-3 balls tops, so the other 3 will just be enjoying the ride to and from Reno! lol Oh well, have balls, will travel! Thanks again for the info. It's always nice to hear what other bowlers experienced.

I just got back from out there.
100% agreement with themagician.
When I threw it good I struck alot.
But when I missed it there was a price to pay.
No single pins missed 1 washout missed 1 3/4 bucket chopped.
4 big 4 splits.
1904 all events.

free agency it is until i get a better offer.   LMAO
