Airfare to Reno
« on: April 25, 2007, 09:47:19 AM »
I have been looking at getting on a team from the sub board and have been looking at air from Indy. Is everyone paying over $300 to fly to bowl in this tournament? I cant find any air for less than $338 and that is with 1 or 2 stops.

It depends on when you are going.  Southwest has for as low as $239.60 round trip 1 stop each way.

I guess since my going with a team from down here didnt work out, I was going anytime from now till the end of June. But all I have seen for air is $338 out of Indy. No tournament is worth that kind of expense to me.

I just put those dates in the Southwest site and as they say, you snooze you loose. Its now $318 for the best flights on those dates.

Thanks anyway.

I paid $50 roundtrip, but thats because I work for American Airlines. But really if there is any way you can get to Columbus (I know its a long way) the fares are usually cheaper there by quite a bit.

My Honda Element "flies" at about 80MPH and arrives in Reno from Northern Los Angeles County in about 6.5 hours.

Its 13.9 gallon gas tank get about 21 miles to the gallon. Filling up one tank costs approx. $35-$40

980 Miles(roundtrip) / 21 miles per gallon = 46.66 gallons / 13.9 gallon tank = 3.4 tanks of gas.

3.4 tanks of gas x $40 per tank = $134 round trip.

Plus the fact that I have all of my equipment with no hassle of travelling with bowling equipment.

Bummer for anyone who doesn't live within driving distance.....

rumor has it if you fly to vegas and drive up you can save anywhere around 150 to 200 dollars... you lose some valuable time but if your looking to save money go that way...   there are always awesome deals to get to vegas

From what I understand its a 8 hour drive to Reno from Vegas or more? How much would a car rental be and then the big question? GAS.

I got air and room for 3 nights with one stop each way for $365 total. Its at the Circus, but I have stayed at worse in my time.

I can't imagine driving 8 hours each way to save $200.  You'd spend $90 just on gas at 30 mpg, saving you a little over $100 for 16 hours of driving.  Maybe for some, but not for me.

if you are flying then driving sacremento is a great place to start, 2 hour across the pass and it is a nice drive
san francisco is about 4 hour drive.  once again if traveling in a group of 3 or 4 flying to sacramento or san fran is the way

I flew detroit to reno, one stop both ways for 260.00 in late march

Trying to fly out of Minneapolis was expensive, even several months ago the cheapest ticket was over $400.  Instead, we piled 6 people in a Yukon and made the 26 hour drive.  We had 10 others in our group following in an RV.  A nice road trip that was significantly cheaper than trying to fly.  Gas for 6 people round trip = $600.  Airfare for 6 people = more than $2400.
