Need help on what ball to take to Reno
« on: April 17, 2004, 02:05:46 AM »
This is my 1st time going & I'm bringing my storm 4 roller ball bag.I'm not sure what ball should I take.I have 3 choices to make 'coz the 4th ball will be my spare plastic ball. What do you guys think should I bring?
Here are the choices that I can't decide on:

*Storm Big Hit Pearl(polished)label leverage
*Balck Cherry Bomb (dull)stacked leverage
*Storm X factor duece (800 grit dull)4 x 4 stacked leverage
*Storm Erase It(600 grit dull)rev leverage
*lane 1 Uranium (box condition)Drilled 4 1/2 x 4
*Cherry Bomb(800 grit dull)stacked leverage
*Storm Core Power LRG(800 grit dull) 10:30 layout pin below ring finger cg kicked out 2"

My choices so far for the 3 will be the cherry bomb, uranium & core power LRG 'coz these are my favorites right now, but I'm not sure if this are great choices for that house.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Take what you have the most confidence in and the equipment that is
the most comfortable.  Hitting your mark consistently and having a good feel
will mean more in my opinion. The owner of the proshop I use just got back from the senior masters and went to the delegates convention at Reno and felt that
whatever line you were playing that the equipment with a shallower angle in the pocket carried better then the guys with a sharper angle. Just his observations.
Granted in 2001 their team ended up 3rd in team just pins out of 1st.
I'm taking 2 balls that arc, 2 balls more skid flip with. 2 are pearls, 1 solid reactive and 1 particle.

After talking with others, cruising both this site and the ABC site, and factoring in my experience on sport shots, and finally considering which balls I feel comfortable throwing knowing that it won't be a THS condition, here's what I am taking (all 15#):

Warp Zone with a pin under bridge layout
Raging Inferno pin over ring and CG in center of grip.
Fuze Eliminator polished, pin under ring stacked 5-1/2 x 5-1/2
Inferno with a pin over bridge and CG slightly positive.
Polished Fire Quantum 5 x 5 layout (pin lower than ring)
Original Spirit 6 x 5 layout.
I'm going to have a few others in reserve that I might swap out for singles and doubles, perhaps my Monster Red/Black, a polished Warp Zone, and maybe an Inferno with a different layout.

I'm bowling this Monday & Tuesday. I'll post a report - it will be my first ABC.

Looks like too much medium stuff.  How and if the lanes are broken down will dictate how much ball you will need.  I haven't been to the stadium, but after reading some of the great posts in this section, it seems like a variety of things are working for people.

I've never like stacked leverage for tough conditions, so I'd choose the Duece in case you get a slick pair.  I'd have to include the Big Hit Pearl in case you get a pair that's broken down bad.  Uranium looks like it would split the difference for your medium ball.

I don't know if I would take the big hit or not.  From what I saw in Reno, doubles and singles didn't break down hard enough to need a ball like that.  If anything, team is where you need an oiler and d/s a medium oil ball that can handle carrydown will work.  So from your arsenal, I would take the duece, uranium, and well nevermind everything I said above, take the hit.  Everything else you have is pretty dull so a polished ball that will get through the heads is a good call.  I probably could have erased what I said, but oh well.  So I second everything Strider said.

Thanks for all your responses.
How about this three:

*X factor duece for heavy oil

*Core Power LRG or Cherry bomb for medium oil

*Uranium for medium to light oil

I have to make up my mind on choosing the core power LRG or the cherry bomb.

What do you guys think?
Anymore suggestions or opinions guys...
