Late shift

Has anyone bowled the last shift of the night? I am to bowl at 11:30 pm on 5-18 and wondered what to expect in the lanes and what I might need.

probably burnt heads and a lot of carrydown. Possibly very dry on the back too depending what people used. So probably a ball that retains its energy a lot more on back so a pearl imho

I bowled late shift, it's not too bad, except if you're like me, coming from EST, it's 2:30am....make sure you get a nap in that day, or bye bye.
Seriously, the lanes are very playable. I had 610 in doubles (with a poor 165 in game #2, had a bad case of the "tugs"), and 595 in singles (a couple 190s, and 215). Not great by any means, but still decent.Be prepared to move left (probably opposite in you're a lefty) during singles, and get around the ball. If you can execute, you'll be fine. I feel I left some pins out there, but frankly, wasn't accurate enough. Accuracy is the name of the game at Nationals, as there simply isn't enough mistake room to score. Good luck.

I haven't seen it play all that different than the other minors squads that follow a team event, other than there are fewer bowlers.

It is after a team squad on fresh.

You can get anything depending on what the teams in front of you did and how they played them.

I didn't see bowlers have to get as deep as in the past this year. The guys who were shooting good had some shine on the ball to help the ball thru the heads.

They re-oil before the 8:30pm team event, so they won't be dry.

So your saying there should be only one set on a pair before I bowl that late?

There is one team set on the lanes before the 11:30 doubles/singles.

But if all the team players used sponges and played all over the lane then the heads can be pretty burned.

Bowling after team gives you 30 games on the pair (10 bowlers x 3 games).

Bowling after D/S (such as the 9:20 AM shift) gives you 24 games (4 x 6)

Bowling 3rd set of D/S (11:40 AM) gives you 48 games (2x4x6)

As suggested, watch the team on your pair as late as possible before you go to the squad room (check in your gear first)

I bowl the late late squad and love it. Last year capped off my 2020 while everyone was sleeping :-)

For me the late late squad does nothing to change the condition. Its still all about who is in front of you in the 830 team event.
