Nationals looking for new City in 2011
« on: May 15, 2007, 02:51:58 PM »
For some dumb reason, the City of Wichita couldnt agree with the USBC to hold the tourney.  Im pissed, as I was looking foward to NOT having drive far or flying.

Maybe Kansas City can jump in and get it.  That would be a nice place to hold it.  Although the traffic sucks!

Here's a suggestion. How about Connecticut. The Mohegan Sun casino has a very large addition that should be ready by then that includes a convention center and separate bowling center.(mohegansun.com) Foxwoods casino is twenty minutes down the road and there are two major airports within a hours drive. (Providence and Bradley International) Mohegan already hosts the T of C. There are plenty of hotel rooms and it would return the tournament to the north east where it hasn't been since Syracuse. Just my opinion.

Why not Chicago?  Plenty of large convention centers to pick from.

Because that would mean the Chicago convention centers would have to give up a lot of smaller conventions.  Everyone wants to go to the bigger cities for trade shows, so places like Chicago, NY, Las Vegas, etc., never have a problem booking shows.  The major problem with this tournament is it completely books the convention center for 5 months.  Most places make better money on smaller shows that last less than 2 weeks than they do on the big ones that last months.  I'm surprised we're going to Vegas.  I don't think we'll ever see the tournament in a spot like Chicago or NY.

It would be great if Knoxville bid on the tournament again, not only was that my best tournament, I also had the most fun there, and it's driveable.  But we're at the mercy of the bid city.

Actually outside of Chicago in some of the western suburbs, they just finished two brand new convention centers.  About 20 minute ride from O'Hare.  So it might not be too bad, considering all these new convention centers are taking business from each other.

How about host city Chicago ! I am tired of flying, give us Midwesterners
a break. Airport, hotels, casinos (in the area, Indiana, Elgin, and Aurora)
and plenty of nightlife. Rosemont also has a huge convention center and
we have bowling centers in the area for BJ and 40 framer !  Just an
idea. I did see Chicago some where on the board for the early 1900's.
Even Detroit, Milwaukee, St Louis would be cool also. Then again, with the
price of gas, it might be cheaper to fly !

I understand Knoxville is the frontrunner at this time. Looks like I'll need the mountain goat for a caddy again at the golf course!!!

Being form the west coast ( kind of ) I agree, although I like the convenience of driving, I would love to see different parts of the country not only vie for but also get to hold the USBC nationals

We were there during the first or second round of the NCAA and the Volunteers were in the thick of it...me and my brother had a blast.
