I stayed at the Super 8 on Lobdell in Port Allen.  That motel was pretty good for the price.  The area is decent.  It is a place where truckers like to stop but there were no signs of major problems that I could see.

PS The Super 8 was only $43 per night booked at their site

Days Inn should be okay, as long as you stay on that side of I-10. South side of I-10 is a drug haven and the Motel 6 is the center of it all according to locals. We stayed at the Comfort Suites on the north side across the street from Days Inn and it was okay. Wal-Mart is right behind the Holiday Inn Express in the same area and if you're into Chinese Food, there's a grwat little buffet that just opened across from Wal-mart also. However, beware, the Wal-Mart IS NOT a supercenter, just a regular OLD Wal-Mart. Enjoy you're trip X.
