FLORIDA MAN SHOOTS HIGHEST
SERIES EVER AT ABC TOURNAMENT

RENO, Nev. - John Janawicz of Winter Haven, Fla., shot the highest
series in the 101-year history of the American Bowling Congress
Championships Tournament on Thursday.

The 31-year-old Janawicz had games of 300, 279 and 279 for an 858 series
in Regular Singles, topping the previous record by one pin. In 2003 in
Knoxville, Tenn., Derek Sapp shot an 857 series in Regular Doubles.

Janawicz struck on 33 out of a possible 36 times in singles and used the
big set to take the lead in Regular All-Events as well. He had 687 in
team and 679 in doubles for 2,224 all-events.

The last time a bowler won both the singles and all-events titles was in
1971 when Al Cohn of Chicago shot 738 in singles and 2,063 in
all-events.

"It really hasn't sunk in yet," Janawicz said. "I knew in the back of my
mind, especially after the first game of singles, that I had a
legitimate shot to do something pretty good. I mean, I've never even
seen someone shoot 850. It's kind of weird to be the one doing it."

Janawicz left three 10-pins in singles - the fifth frame of the second
game, the second frame of the third game and on his final shot in the
10th frame.

After it was all said and done, Janawicz was worried about one thing -
holding the championship trophy.

"If I can hold on to win the Eagle that's more important than the
money," Janawicz said of the ABC Tournament title. "That's something I
wanted to do before all the discs in my back blow out."

Janawicz, who is a technician for bowling company Kegel, beat out Mark
Wolff of Wildwood, Mo., who had 793 in singles this year. He also
knocked Jay Futrell of Derby, Kan., out of the top spot in all-events
