New Team Record tonight
« on: April 02, 2013, 11:06:28 PM »
Just wanted to give a shout out to my friend and teammate Mitch Jabczenski Sr. and his squad for setting the new team record out t the Open Championships. 3538 beating the old record by one pin.

Good shooting guys. Haven't seen a press release yet but saw Jeff Ussery post it on FB and The Hammer Booth shared it.

His teammates were John Gaines, John Janawicz, Vernon Peterson, and Scott Newell. Must be a thrill for all those guys. From what I heard Janawicz needed to punch the 10th frame of game 3 for the record. Talk about some pressure....lol.

I don't recognize all of the names but the ones I do are great bowlers.  Give Mitch my congratulations since you know him.  I bowled against him in 1969-70.  Not sure but I think he was bowling with Randy Pierce and Lee Snow at the time.  I remember getting beat all the time by them.

Thanks for the link help. I bowl with Mitch on Tuesdays at the Thunderbowl All Stars and used to sub with him on another league. I am sure he once bowled with Lee as they are around the same age and some of the best bowlers to ever come out of this area.

He was texting us at bowling last night as it was happening and it was pretty cool to think about. Man what I wouldn't give to field a team of 10 guys to go there and grrom the shot and have fun like that. They definitely attack the lanes like you are supposed to and open them up. Wish I could get my guys to do that....lol.

Complete,
Thanks for the heads up on this. Great bowling by all.  I don't know any of these people personally, but I know their names from some of their past accomplishments. Great bowlers one and all.

This really shows the need for 10 people working together to help everyone score better. I know there are people who complain about this...but bowling in a tournament like this was always about a team and working together to score the best they can.

Yeah you have to attack it and break it down together or else it can get really ugly out there when the oil gets moved all over the place. Riggs has had some great info on how to do this through the ywmears and Janasau (spelling I think) used to give team lessons on it out there in Reno. Maybe still does.

Maybe one day I will be able to field a team that understands this and commits to it. I have convinced others to try but it doesn't ever last long as they don't like what they are seeing and switch balls to play their comfort zone. Once that happens, you have absolutely destroyed any chance of scoring. You burned the heads and now someone has jumped deep and is dragging oil to the break point. Makes it no fun at all.

I have had a ton of success out there including a 792 set and one year where I shot in the 660's all three sets. But never had the committed approach from a team to chase a team scores. I quit going a couple years ago but will be getting back into it next year or the year after.

Looks like Ussery also pulled out a good set that night (665, I believe). I feel a bit better about the pattern now, as he and I both throw nearly the same line. Definitely will be about teamwork on the pattern.

Back on topic. John Gaines.. someone please correct me, but isn't he of any relation to Kendra? Father, or sibling? I ask because both names were pretty well constant out on tour in the mid/late 90s, and want to say they were related..

John and kendra are husband and wife. I have gotten to know john quite well over the past year or two. Very nice guy and always willing to help out.

I know the team very well with the exception of Mitch Jabczenski Sr. Who from what I have heard is a very very good bowler in his own right. I actually bowl on the state team with john, vernon, scotty, and jj and they are all amazing bowlers. They bowled amazing last night. Im very happy for all the guys apart of that team.

Thanks.. I was way off! I could have sworn that there was an older person named Gaines that was on the tour or Senior tour. Either way, that will be tough to beat, though I think Richgels is right in comparing apples to pineapples here. The previous record was set in 1993. Did they not give a fresh pattern for the team event back then? If not, then this is definitely a huge feat.

I'd love to see if McNeil and co., or Steelsmith's crew can match.

If the record was set in 1993 then it was probably set on the second squad of team.

The schedule used to be for 2 team squads each evening. The second squad was the desired squad because the lanes would start to open up some.

I want to take this time to congratulate the team again for how well they bowled and also Congratulate JJ on his bowling and taking AE lead. He is one of the nicest guys you could meet and ever bowl with. He deserves all good that happens to him. Great bowling John, JJ, Scotty, Vernon and Mitch, well deserved

My teamate called John Gaines after their set to ask him  how they played the lanes and the theme seems to be the same for this year more than any other. You need to have ten guys playing the same zone to burn up a spot and to shell down versus migrating in for the team event.
