Has anyone tried playing the 1-2 board? I'm not going this year, but I practiced on the shot yesterday. I had the best look playing a little slower straight up the 2 board. I'm a lefty, revs probably around 200-250. Was bowling on 10 year old synthetic lanes, not sure if they are brunswick or amf.

In past years, that line on the left would allow you to pick up the 7 pin and not much else especially with your stated rev rate. According to other reports, that still holds true today at the current nats.

Well, I practiced on that shot yesterday and I was throwing it up the 2-3 with great success. As long as I didn''''t put too much turn on it and stayed behind it I had all kinds of room. As long as I was between the 2-5 board the ball was flush, (yes I had that much room). Granted this was on wood lanes so I know it will be different at the stadium.

I would not recommend trying this line on either side.

For skbowl - the lanes at NBS are synthetic. No comparison to wood lanes, what you saw won't translate period.

For bowlallthetime - the age of the synthetics you practiced on may be a factor as well as the lane machine. Does yoru center have the newest drop brush machines? If not, then it cannot correctly lay out the pattern to this years USBC Open. If it does, then I think you are back to the age. While the lanes maybe year wise only a little older then the NBS (I forget when they redid the lanes there) they are much older wear-wise, as the NBS doesn't have leagues or open play, just tournments (unless something has changed that I am not aware of).

I believe they were redone in 2005 at the NBS. The last time the Nats were there the left side was pretty slick on the outside. It was more consistent inside of the second arrow.

Did the center you practiced at have a Kegel lane machine with the drop brush feature enabled?

Shot would be too erratic at the stadium. Usually, the oil machine doesnt put any oil on the 1 board. Unless you are directly up the back of the ball, if you hit the 1 board too quickly, you will be lucky to stay on your own side of the lane. If you hit 3 board, you will probably miss the head pin altogether from sliding too much. You will need a ball with alot of surface and alot of forward roll to be successful playing "way outside". But I dont recommend playing out there at all.

Our league used the USBC Open pattern this week and one of the guys on our pair had an absolutely terrific look up five with a new Riot and good, but not tremendous, speed. The house is Brunswick synthetics and used a Kegel machine (they also have a Brunswick) but of course they don't yet have the drop brush softwear. Not sure about the oil and cleaner brand but suspect it is probably Brunswick.

While I am just an old hack who lost his game several years ago, I finally took my head out of my nether regions and tried up five with an old Columbia 300 Action Packed and found that to be the best reaction I had all night. Even given the above, I find it hard to believe that Reno will play that way but we shall see.

The *only* way that you would be able to successfully play out that far on either lane is to break that area down as a team. I did actually see one team successfully break down the corner and go crazy on the shot, but everyone was on the same page for what to do. Other than ganging up on the line that everyone wants to play, your only other real shot is to stay around 10 at 40 feet.. the amount of belly that you give the ball will depend greatly on your speed and rev rate, but make sure that you're playing 10 at the break.

Keep in mind the OP is left handed. It's highly doubtful that five lefthanders would be on the same pair to break them down. In fact, does anyone even know five lefthanders that bowl?

I was keeping that in mind. Either way what I said holds true.. If you want to play something other than what's out there, your whole team has to be in agreement to do it and have the equipment there to break the shot down.

Right, it's just not realistic for the left side. It works well for the right side.
