Sorry to have ruffled feathers on that one, headwest. My statement was meant as hyperbole to illustrate what I feel are drastic differences in security protocols followed at those two different airports; nevertheless, if I offended you or anyone else, I offer my apologies.

Good thing you didn't mention the anal probes...

The anal probes are saved for anal people.

You should be able to take two double totes, one that you'd have to keep under your feet, one up above in the luggage shelf.

Most of my crew does 3 ball tourney totes, and we fly southwest...I have one regular luggage and one three ball tourney tote.  All fly free.  The tourney totes are 47 of the 50 slotted pounds.

Bill, I recently witched to two triple totes for travel purposes, but this will be my first time flying with this setup. Do you put any type of padding (i.e. towel) on top of the balls? I’ve got the hammer triple totes, so the top is clear, but not padded.

The last time I attempted to carry on a 2-ball tote, the TSA agent refused to let them on the plane because she couldn't see through the core.  I had to go back to the counter and check that bag and the nice lady at the counter pulled one of my other checked bags and let that be carried on instead.  A ton of hassle over something that shouldn't have been an issue.   

 
I had the exact same experience out of LAX. Then the baggage folks decided to try to pick up my tote by the zipper handle. Low IQ must be a prerequisite for the job. 


In other travels, I've spoke to TSA agents in Ft. Wayne, Ind and Portland, Ore. Both told me there would be NO issues bringing on a 2 ball Tote. When I asked why LAX declined, they told me each airport makes their own final determination. They said the best action is to call ahead before the trip and get a answer. it's the safer bet.

Isn't security theater lovely?  To this day the Garland Tx police department has stopped more terrorists than the TSA.  Still thanks for the heads up.  Don't want to end up the watch list because I am the mad bowling ball bomber.  Leave the Roto Grenade or MoRich WMB balls at home.

I’m leaving Friday flying southwest. Here’s what I do. 2 three ball totes for my check in bags. One backpack carry on with my bowling shoes, towel, abralon, tape etc. one carry on with my clothes. Only works if you use 15 lbs on the totes or you will be over the 50 lb weight limit and have to pay a fine.
