question about entrances
« on: March 28, 2010, 03:03:31 PM »
When the bowlers enter the arena, why do they let them roll their 3 ball/4ball bags across the approaches?  Why not have them walk straight off the approaches and head left/right from there?

Maybe because it is faster?
I did not go this year so I do not know how much room is behind the approaches.  If it is narrow, then jams can occur and delay the bowlers getting to their pair.

was just thinking that a bunch of crap could get on the approaches from the wheels.

I thought the same thing when I read your questions, so I tried to think why would they do that and in the past, getting bowlers out on time was always a concern because it caused later squads to be real late.  I remember bowling in the last squad and being 30-60 minutes late in starting.

Edited to add:

And I do not know the real reason why, just a guess on my part.  Perhaps someone else has the answer?

That was addressed during the announcements over the weekend and we were told that's that way it's always been done.

Crap might come off from the wheels but the crap probably will stick to the carpet way before the bowler ever reaches the approaches..at least at the stadium.  It's a decent walk from the elevators to the squad room.

First time I bowled the ABC tournament in Reno, you weren''t allowed to roll ANYTHING out. It had to be carried. Their philosophy at the time was if you brought too much to carry, shame on you...
I had to have a friend carry a 2 ball bag for me while I carried the other two 2 ball bags.

Last time, we could roll them out.

When was that?  I've been to Reno twice in the during the 2000's and everyone wheeled out their equipment.

70's, 80's, and 90's, wheeled bags were not allowed or at least, not allowed to be rolled.  If you used wheeled bags, you had to carry them in.  You could bring in as many balls as you could carry.

we've always walked to the back and not rolled thru the approaches, there is plenty of room behind approaches to wheel your stuff, espeically since they roll you out via lane number and not just evreyone at once
