All of you crying about Air Fare to Reno, be glad you don't live in Cincinnati,Ohio ! Over $700.00 to Reno. Needless to say I won't be going this year.
-
i'm happy with my round trip airfare flying out of milwaukee first week of may for $318 w/southwest airlines. i was pricing other airlines & it was crazy how high some were.
i feel for you.

You could probably cut that $700 in half if you are willing to drive to Southwest hub like Midway(Chicago)

Ahh.. Delta's long lost hub of blight. That would be the problem.
How about this instead: you're roughly 90 - 100 miles from Louisville.. You could get from SDF-RNO for less than $500 roundtrip (before taxes).

OK folks. Airfare has been running higher the last year. My experience in purchasing airfare shows the best time to buy is typically the fall before my travel. I never paid more than $250.00 per ticket from Phila to Reno until this year. I use a webpage,
http://www.airfarewatchdog.com You can pre load preferred date for a number of cities both departure and destination, and then establish the number of messages you wish to receive in a week notifying you with current prices for your choices. 4 Weeks ago the airfare dropped almost $200.00 60 days out for my trip. We were looking at $500.00 plus per ticket before this and eventually booked at $318.00 Every single airline dropped for the week. I went back to bowl.com my travel vacations and booked 2 airline tickets and a room for 2 for $840 all taxes and fees included.

We are going to fly into California and drive over to Reno. If you watch the fares they do offer more deals into those airports than into Reno. FYI, unless you like miles and miles of desert don't do the Vegas to Reno drive. Been there done that and man what a drive. The fares just change daily so a good deal today maybe gone tonight. I booked a deal yesterday and my team captain missed it. He is now searching and waiting again.

We booked our for $612 round trip on Southwest from the upper east coast.
We also booked our rooms on mybowlingvacation.com for $60 per night at the Legacy, and by doing that we earned free entries into the 900 Global Challenge ($40 value)

I looked for cheap airfare to Reno and there just isnt any. I can go to Vegas with hotel for under $400.00. Reno pisses me off. Probably never going there again.

If you're going to fly into CA, again, look for airfare into Sacramento. That will be the closest airport to Reno with commercial service. Otherwise, Oakland or SFO will be your next bet. But SMF is what you're looking for.

T_bone....and what did you pay to go to Baton Rouge last year???
Why does everyone expect their to be super cheap airfare to Reno. It is not a popular destination, just like Baton Rouge isn't, just like Albuquerque wasn't....hell did anyone find any cheap airfare when the tournament was in Billings? But what everyone seems to forget is, you get cheaper rooms, cheaper food, and cheaper transportation (usually) in Reno as well. So while you pay more for airfare, your overall trip isn't much more, if any more, expensive then going somewhere else. All I hear is people complaining about Reno. Yes, the city isn't the greatest. But, there is plenty to do if you look around and are willing to drive a few miles in the surrounding areas, even for kids. And because of the NBS, it is saving the USBC money that offsets the declining number of teams, and allows us to continue to have this tournament year after year. I too would love to go back to the rotation of Reno only every 3 years and seeing different cities around the country, I liked that about the tournament. But it has been discussed ad nauseum as to why most cities won't bid on this tournament and I see no one taking any initiative to work with their local Convention Center Board to try and get the tournament to their city.....just whining and crying on websites like this.

Jorge,
While I agree with most of what you said......The truth of the matter is that other cities have placed bids on hosting the event. Problem is USBC goes after the highest bidder, can't blame them really, and Reno will almost always bid higher (what else do they really have to spark their economy?) I'm going to go to the tournament regardless of where it is, but initially when i started (syracuse) I liked the fact it went to places you wouldn't normally book a vacation to ie; Billings, Albuquerque, Baton Rouge, Knoxville, etc. I liked seeing the country even in non destination type locations.

Storm making it rain,
You are 100% correct, other cities have bid. And we are going to other places as was recently announced. But the point of any bidding process is to take the highest bidder. Reno will usually be that, and it offers other savings for the USBC as it doesn't have construction costs for building and tearing down the bowling lanes and infrastructure. We will always be going to Reno, and going there more frequently then we go to other places. I agree I liked seeing cities I would never otherwise go to, I even liked Billings, but those days are probably behind us. I just get tired of hearing the same constant whining and b*&ching on here about Reno.
