Bowlers Journal and the BTM
« on: April 10, 2007, 04:49:45 AM »
Has anyone here bowled in these events?  What are the conditions like?  Do they re-oil at all during the day?  Where did you play?

What are the squad times?

I have not yet been to Reno.  However I know for the BTM, they start at 9am and take the last bowlers around 4pm.  No real squad times per say.  If there are lanes available when you get there, you get a lane.

Call before you go to the BTM because the house has a lot of activity going on and he might be able to run squads every day.  I don't believe the lanes are reoiled(I was there last week).

Have fun!

True, there will be oil and later in the day you will have a nice inside line.  Think deep...

I was going direct as well but I didn't have the right equipment.  My X-factor didn't have enough and my SA was way too strong.  Thinking back, I should have gone inside, but that's life. The third game I left four straight six pins(lefty) and kept adjusting but I didn't adjust enough or correctly.

Tuesdays the BTM only has the lanes until about noon, the house has a league that comes in at 1:00 and they need to strip and reoil the lanes. Most other days they are availble till 4. Somedays they are dark as well. As far as the oil, tough shot, fair shot. I had 2 clean games, then my timing went to pieces and I struggled. Still feel this is the best side tournament at Nationals.

The BJ also doesn't reoil during the day. Not sure weeknights if you get enough bowlers for them to hold a 9:00 PM squad. They only do that if they have reservations and are assured of a minimum number of bowlers, not sure what that number is. I think they run 10:00 - 5:00 each day and works the same as the journal, no set squad times, they will start you when you show up, or they may wait until they get a few bowlers so you don't have to bowl alone.

On edit: I tried direct at the BTM and went 191-193 both clean to start, bad ball choice also for me. Didn't through the ball well at all at he BJ, but the shot isn't as tough as the BTM, more along the lines of a tougher house pattern, no dry outside but very playable, either inside or straight up the outside, depending on equipment and style.

Are there any dress codes for the BJ and the BTM?

Only thing I know for sure about the BTM is that the two times I was there they had some really nice looking females bowling(open play and league). So dress accordingly!!!

Baseball hats, huh?  Lol, well, hopefully they let a Yankees fan bowl.

Both oil once in the morning.  I'd bowl the BJ early to take advantage of the shot as much as possible.  The BTM, I'd bowl that later in the day and hope the other people have set up a decent look for you.
