Slim 3-ball bags
« on: March 17, 2009, 06:14:44 AM »
Just wandering if anyone has checked these bags or had trouble doing so? I checked, and mine came in at about 48.9 pounds. Am flying Southwest to Vegas. Any input is appreciated.

Most airlines it's a 50lbs limit so you should be ok.

What I have heard is airlines like United and American will not check them because they limit sporting goods especially bowling balls. Southwest checks them with no issue as long as they come under 50 LBS.

Bowlers almost have to fly Southwest if they bring some "stuff". Until USBC schedules a location that Southwest doesn't service. then you have to use there overpriced shipping service.

Jetblue's policy from their website.

Bowling Equipment
There is no additional charge for bowling equipment. However, one item of bowling equipment will count as one of your checked bags.

One item of bowling equipment is considered:

one bowling ball
one bowling bag and
one pair of bowling shoes

United allows a maximum of two balls per bag.  Doesn't matter if it weighs less than 50 pounds, they will refuse or possibly charge extra if the bag has three balls in it. The three ball bag is ok as long as no more than two balls are inside. You can fill the empty space with clothes.

I called Jetblue and asked if one had a two ball bag but only had one ball in it how would that be handled, and I was told there would be no extra charge.  However, if two balls were in the bag then it would be charged as if it were a 2nd bag and be subjected to weight limits.
