The draw of bowling the ABCs?

I don't understand the draw and/or fun of bowling the ABCs every year. What am I missing?

I bowled the Reno 2010 and Reno 2011 ABCs, but didn't see the excitement. Bowled decent, shot 1900s both years cashed in every event both years as well. But, why for something so prestigious is there so few games bowled, and I don't understand why pairs are not moved. I don't understand why the number of games can't be increased from 3 to around 10, maybe making big jumps so you can get to bowl across the entire center. I don't understand the enjoyment of bowling more than 1 game on a lane.

Bowl 10 games plus moving lanes!!  They have shifts going into the wee hours as is. It would take forever for the tournament to get done.

Time and money.
With the number of entries involved, bowling more than three games would decrease the number of teams each day that could bowl, causing the tournament to run weeks/months longer, thus more cost.

I just went this year for the first time, and I will definitely try to go every year.  I shot 1838, not great, but decent for my 1st year.  Do I realistically have a shot at an Eagle, no.  But there is plenty of money to be made out there, and its a good time with friends.  Yes there are only 9 games, but there are tons of side tournaments to bowl and keep you busy.  Everything being far from the Midwest blows, but it is what it is.  I enjoy gambling so if the location has a casino I'll be happy.

Tradition. History. Prestige.

Association championships -- at least all that I know of and I am referring to City, State, Nationals -- have never that I know of involved moving pairs every game. USBCs is NOT a tournament like so many you refer to.

The ABC Tournament/USBC Open Championships is something that has been held for more than a century. Go to BOWL.com and check out the names of Eagle holders -- it's a Who's Who of bowling history.

Many like me bowl for the chance to etch their name in bowling history forever alongside all those greats.

Pretty unlikely I will ever get an eagle at my age, but the prestige of the tourney is worth it to many of us.  No matter how many issues I had with the ABC management on other issues over the years, it never detracted from the prestige of doing well in the tourney
