The Hammer Booth
« on: February 18, 2010, 04:03:34 PM »
Hello future bowlers of the 2010 USBC Open in Reno. We at the Hammer Booth just wanted to take this opportunity to extend our knowledge and customer service to anyone who may need or want it. We will frequently be on here to answer any questions as well as provide information as to what seems to be rolling good on the lanes. With that said, feel free to send me a PM or post on here to ask anything that we may not answer or comment on.

This year we will also have a Facebook page where we will be posting pictures, upcoming sales as well as scores from some of our bowlers. Feel free to add us, you can find us under The Hammer Booth on Facebook or follow this link:

Our take on Shady $ Co. lane play to take the team event lead. Obviously there was no issues game 2 and 3, that was some great bowling to watch. However, we are sure game 1 was not the start they were looking for. It really wasn't that bad of a game, 967 is a pretty solid start for most teams out here. What we watched from high above in the rafters (mainly because the stands were packed) was what appeared to be a move left by everyone around the 4th frame. During practice and the first 3 frames every was around 6-8 at the arrows, then after that, they got into around 12-13 area. They continued to grind the rest of the game in there, pretty much having to be perfect to strike. Eventually toward the end of the game a few had moved back right and some seemed to have much better ball reaction. We think that they moved in too fast and needed to stay further right a little longer and then could have probably started the strike-a-thon toward the end of game 1 instead of frame 4 or 5 of game 2. Take this for what you would like, but it was what we talked about in the booth with each other and came up with as to what happened game 1. Take nothing away from their great bowling, what they did was fun to watch. Would also like to say Mike Shady and Marc McDowell are a couple of nice guys and it was a pleasure to chat and do their ball surfacing for them. Once again nice bowling guys.

I was out there this past weekend, so I got to see the Peach Vibe up close. Uh, who is the color blind SOB at Hammer who's calling that ball peach? That thing is a spitting image of the old Pink Hammer! The only peach ball in the Hammer lineup is the Psycho, which Hammer said was orange! lol In any event, make plans to visit the booth while you guys are out there. There's lots of good stuff. I just wish the pink, oops, meant peach, was still available in 15. Oh well.

New Doubles Leaders:

http://www.bowl.com/news/xmlburner.jsp?xa=./webapps/ROOT/news/main/data/040510VermilyeaandMersch.xml

Drilled Jeff the Black Widow Sting and Onyx Vibe and that is all he used for both the Bowler's Journal and the Open.

Here are the layouts and surface: For the Sting it was 30 x 4 x 50 and the Onyx was 40 x 3 1/2x 20. In team the surface on the Sting was box and it was a little too strong and when he went to the Onyx he had the world. The Onyx was at 500/2000. For doubles and singles we put the Sting on 4000 pads for 5 minutes and was so much better and redid the Onyx at 500/2000

Questions on the onyx you drilled for Jeff, 40 x 31/2 x 20 Where did the pin end up after drilling?, What top weight ball did you start with?, Did it require a weight hole?, and if so, where did you place it? Above PAP, Below PAP, or on PAP?. When you prepared the surface, did you just use 500 from the Box finish and then use 2000, or did you take the ball down lower to start?

On the onyx pin ended up being to the left of his ring finger, cg was down, don't remember the top weight. The hole was down and on his VAL. The 500/2000 was box, then 500 for 3 minute then 2000 for 3 minutes.
