I want to first state that I love the game of bowling. It is something that I have enjoyed doing for over 30 years and will continue to bowl and teach as long as I can.
What I don't understand is why the membership of the ABC (you and I) does not concern itself with the real issue behind declining membership, that is the people who run the ABC. If any public business lost customers the way the ABC loses membership the stock holders would revolt and throw them out. We need an organization that promotes bowling at the local level and sets up grass roots learn to bowl initiatives (using some of that membership fee at the local level and not have all of go to Wisconsin), instead of concentrating on national events that do nothing to increase membership and grow the game, but do add to the bottom line. Don't we bowlers deserve an organization that is run for us. I for one would pay more in membership fees if I knew some the money was used to help the game locally.
The ABC tournament:
I had an ABC official tell me at an event, not to concern myself with the quality of the bowling conditions or my bowling, but I should treat this as a vacation and enjoy my time in Reno. This comment came after I had a bad set and was just letting some steam off. I know bowling bad was my fault, but I thought the event was about bowling not about getting away from the old lady for a few days on a half assed vacation. These guys don't get it. If you want to be treated like a sport you need to respect the game and treat it like a sport. No wonder the leadership could not get bowling in the Olympics when they had a chance, now it is to late.
If they want to find out who the best bowler is at ABC sponsored events why don't they make everyone use the same bowling ball. The ABC could contract to have the ball made (rotate manufactures). We could order through them and have it drilled by our local pro shop.
Just a few comments. Now I feel better.
