Top of the board
« on: June 18, 2006, 03:54:26 PM »
I just got back from CC and I am leading Classified Singles. I know most of you dont bowl in that division, but i am very happy, I have been working really hard on my game for the last 6 months and it paid off in singles.

Rule number 2 sub #1 (read the final line)

"A bowler with an averaged based on 21 or more games in the 2004-05 winter season shall use that average.  If the player has more then one such average, the highest of these averages must be used.  If no 2004-05 winter season average , a 21 game 2004-05 summer season average may be used.  "USBC RULE 319a-2 DOES APPLY" When a bowler's current 21 game average as of January 1, 2006 is 10 or more pins higher, that average must be used.

Not trying to crush your dreams, but there is no way your average ended at 194 and you were below 180 at Jan 1.

ok... did a little math ( everyone knows I love this) Lets just say that at Jan 1, he was at exactly 180...

He bowled 96 games total,  his ending average was 194
so 194 X 96 = 18624 total pins for the season

your saying he only bowled 36 games before Jan 1, OK we will go with that.  36*180 = 6480

Then take his total pins minus what he had for the first 36 games to find out how many games he had for the last 60 games of the season.

18624-6480 = 12144 pins

Now lets find out what he had to average for the last 60 games of the year to get his average up to 194.

12144 / 60 = 202.4

OK so it isn't impossible to raise your average 20 pins in a season (VERY HIGHLY UNLIKELY) but how bout this.  He ended 04-05 with 166 had to keep it at 180 (14 pin increase) until Jan 1, and then raise it an aditional 22 pins for the rest of the season to get where he finished at.  Not impossible, but ive never heard of anyone doing anything close to that.  That is an overale increas of 36 pins in one season Very impressive non the less, why should he not be proud of raising his averaged that much and step up with the big boys rather then trying to pull a "Mushtare" and find a loophole.

If you did follow all the rules, and did get by with the average, I congradulate you first hand.  Awsome shooting and i believe that is the highest ever shot in classified division.

Yes, I will shead some light. I have been bowling for 4 years, My Jan. 1 st average was 178. I just graduated from College and moved to Albuquerque New Mexico. I lived in Clovis New Mexico and the highest average there for the house was 194. I got to Albuquerque and people average in the 230's. So i stated my league and I was really happy i got my average up to 178, then I got a coach some time in Feb., his name is Paul Yoder, and many other people have really helped me out. I have been practicing 4 times a week plus bowling league, wow is that expensive. I had Paul Yoder change my span and pitches in my bowling ball to fit correctly and i have been bowling good for me ever since. I have all of the proper paper work, saying my average was 178 on Jan. 1st for are association secretary. I am sorry some of you think this was impossible, but i am very happy.

Props to you, Shawn, for putting together an amazing series at Nationals!

For the rest of you, just a few observations ...

First, I don't know Shawn, even though we are members of the same local association.  I do know from the USBC story that he has only been bowling for four years.

I've also been bowling for four years, and between my first and third years of bowling, my average improved more than 30 pins.

He's younger, stronger and in better shape than me, so I have no doubt that he could improve more quickly and more dramatically than a middle-aged overweight woman with no athletic ability.

In February of this year, he sent me a PM asking about my coach, his coaching style, and what types of skills he teaches.  That shows to me that he is very interested in improving his game.  From Shawn's post above, he took my word and sought out this coach.  By the way, the bowler I go to for coaching is currently in the Eagle position in Doubles at the USBC Open.

Why is it we are so quick to judge people who have an amazing series to be sandbaggers or cheats?  Everyone who has a banner day at the bowling center isn't named Mushtare.

Mad props to you... I was never saying it could not be done, and I am extremely happy for you that you have bettered yourself by getting some coaching and practicing.   I do appoligise if i came off the wrong way, I too was just curious on how you increased your average that much in such a short period of time.

Again congrats,
Troy

I think this is very legit.  Those may think that it is near impossible to raise an average that much that quick.  I had a lady who I subbed with a year and a half ago.  She just moved down from New York.  She did not throw the ball badly, but was only able to get her average into the upper 160s (168 if memory serves me right.  I told her what she needed as she was using an old Track Flare from the mid 1990s.  I punched up a Track Arsenal Aggressive for her and for the last 8 weeks, she had only one set under 600, which I believe was in the 570s, with a high set in the 680s.  Her average in about 8 weeks jumped from the 168 mark to 182!!!  It is not impossible.

Shawn,  Congrats on the fine bowling.  It goes to show that with a little hard work and dedication, nothing is unrealistic.  Keep it up, man!!!

Looks like you held on to the top spot in Classified Singles, Shawn ... Congratulations!  And isn't it cool about Paul and Bobby, too!  Can't wait to see Paul next week when I show up for league on Tuesday.
