Two questions
« on: June 05, 2016, 11:37:34 AM »
Does anyone recommend any of the booths at the National Bowling Center for a good fitting.  I'm developing a knot on my thumb and would like to have someone reevaluate my fit.

Second, does anyone know if any of the bowling centers in town are putting down the Nationals shot to practice on?

Go to the Ebi booth and ask for Dan. He will get you taken care of.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

+ 1 for Dan or Bob at the EBI booth
both are outstanding
dialed in my surfaces just right

there is also $20 off coupons for several balls at the booth
they are in the USBC coupon book you get when you check in

practicing on "the shot" wont be anything close to what you will see
impossible to duplicate the shot on whatever lane surface they have

what it will do is to get you used to seeing what an errant shot will do
and, you should double up on your spare shooting in practice, throw at every single spare
spare ball is preferable on these types of patterns
throw straight at all of them except ones with double wood
good spare shooting is the difference between 150 and 190 sometimes

You can book the practice lanes there, although they are not quite the same as your event lanes
no matter what you do, remember, this is a tough shot!
1.7 - 1 is no joke

most of all, have fun, enjoy yourself in Reno
we tried this place, about 3 blocks from convention center (we walked)
very good food and craft beer selection

Schedule time at the Showcase lanes at the high end of the house.

They will put down a fresh shot for you.

Same people who oil the tournament lanes, using the same machines on the same lane type. It's as close as you are going to get.

The bowlers journal puts down the d/s shot on the high end of the stadium.  The shot does not play even close to the actual tournament.  No matter where you play on the pattern it will most likely be different once you play on the actual at the tournament.

Exactly, lanes 3/4 will play differently than lanes 21/22 at the stadium(and pretty much anywhere else).

But at least they are using the same machines, operated by the same people, in the same building, using the same age, brand and model of lane surfaces, you just can't get any closer of a match.

I actually thought it was pretty close. No two pairs will ever be exactly the same but very close

I haven't bowled my events yet, but I have bowled the Bowlers Journal a couple of times and watched quite a few people bowling their D/S event. What I can see that other people experienced during Doubles/Singles is the same thing I saw when I bowled the Bowlers Journal.

The Bowlers Journal is going to be the closest you can get without actually bowling the Doubles event.

I thought the same thing, however, the EBI booth guys came and watched us
asked what pair we were on, adjusted surfaces way down for us
lots of volume, not close at all to BJ (we were on 17-18 for team)
I have several other teams that I know say they had no volume up front, couldn't get much of anything through the heads
One guy I know is in 1st place for doubles, had to use pretty shiny equipment and pretty early
another guy whose team shot 3000 said he had surface on strong equipment

so, use the BJ and practice lanes as a tune-up
don't use them to tell you where to play or which ball to use
I had pre-determined that i was going to play 10 to start and move in, during practice, Dan from the hammer booth had me try a few up 7-8 and with more surface, it was good for ME ( myself and 1 other on the left side)
used a track legion solid at 1000, i have plenty of hand and decent speed
point being - you won't know what to do until practice and what the rest of the group is willing to do to make them decent for all of you
If you get guys that panic and use to much surface or jump inside to quick, then you will all suffer
