What about the left side in BR?
« on: March 29, 2012, 08:16:06 AM »
OK, I've gone through all the posts here and have seen a lot of information on lane play and equipment for the right side, but really nothing for the left side. Considering we don't get any help breaking down the pattern, how does that effect our choice of ball and surface? From what I can gather, the shot seems to be straight up 5-6.

So, have any leftys bowled and are willing to give a report?

Dave, thanks for the reply.  Read your post and have a few questions, thought we'd keep it here for the benefit of others.

What layout and surface do you have on the 300T?

Do you have any idea what your rev rate and speed are?

Thanks

2000 dull
375 ish
16-16.5 mph
medium to high track, can tilt it if necessary

Thought I had a good plan and practice at home with my gamechanger
Was wrong in the end, the GC was OK, but swinging any boards there on the left side was tough, had to be very precise with mark/speed.

I had the 5-6-7 board all day with the 300T
Kyle in the booth drilled the 300T to start turning before the end of the pattern
pin was centered slightly below my fingers, weight hole on my axis to smooth it out

Those Ebonite guys know right where to play and what to use.
Straighter is greater by far.
Spares is also key, very easy to miss if you have not practiced throwing straight at them.

You will have very little if any miss room and by playing straighter and closer to the gutter, you can take the outside miss room out of the equation (at least in my brain, thats how it worked)
 Outside of 5 is death................

breakpoint will be 2 boards left of the tracer board (unless you are way inside)
The shot is there from many different angles, but you cant stay there long
I threw the ball well before I left and when I got back, decided to max polish the 300T for THS
shot 300/783 with it. Kicking myself for not picking up the 300T sooner.............

There is nothing there that was unexpected from my practice sessions at home, but it is much less forgiving in the stadium and the back ends are very clean
Medium symetrics, pin down, seemed to be the answer
My 505t. pin down with light surface was not smooth off the spot, to angular

300t, gamechanger, outburst all are playable depending on layout and surface

Low game of 196....high game of 254.

Started with a 6" pin Black Eagle around 6-7...

Switched to a modified rico Nuts after about a game in each set.

678..658...651.

Got my hand in a very relaxed position and didn't try and give away the pocket.

Feet never got deeper than 20.

MAKE your spares.

Almost all things are better when they come from Texas.Except maybe the USBC. LOL
free agency it is until i get a better offer.   LMAO

Thanks, Bass.

By modified rico, you mean moving the layout up from grip center by your pap measurment?

Also, why didn't you start with the rico? How many lefties on your pair?

Thanks
What is your speed and rev rate and do you tilt the ball or go up the back.  So far, on our practice pairs that had double striped backends, the best shape was cutting down on the tilt and getting the balls to go more end over end.

By modified I mean... the pin was moved an inch closer to my fingers.

My speed was probably in the low 17's and tried to tame down my axis tilt.

Normally I am in the mid to high 16's with a fair amount of revs.

Figjam or not I am on of the few lefties I know that are more comfortable as I get deeper into the lane.

Crossing inside of 20-25 at the arrows isn't unusual for me if I feel there is a ball reaction in there.

Worked long and hard to be comfy on the ditch again with Norb Wetzel.

I didn't take anything super dull or shiny with me.

Just moved my hand around on the ball and target further down the lane to create skid when needed.
