Weight: 15lbs.
Drilling: 3 3/8 X 4 ½ (Label Leverage)
Surface: Box Surface
My Style: Right handed. Higher track. Medium to medium/fast ball speed. Above average revs.
Length
The G-3 gets good length with its pearl reactive cover. It’s almost as long as the Green Gargoyle, starting its turn a little sooner.
Ball Motion
With a low RG and high differential, the G-3 stores a ton of energy for the breakpoint. Its path to the pocket is fairly straight but once it reaches the breakpoint, it wants to turn and turn now! If the back ends are clean, it will snap very hard (hockey stick look). I found it to react even harder than the Green Gargoyle. With longer oil, it will move strong but not with the violent snap.
Lane Conditions
When conditions require an extra punch at the back just bring out the G-3. Creating angle isn’t a problem with this ball. Even with the pearl cover, the G-3 can handle light carry down. Clean back ends create a “high risk, high reward†situation – either powerful strikes or big splits. Haven’t really thrown the ball on heavy oil (not what its meant for). On dry shots, with unlimited room for error to the outside, the G-3 works well with a lot of speed.
Hand Positions
The Gryphon responds well to changes in hand position. With its high differential, staying behind the ball is a plus. Coming around it too much causes it to break too hard. The G-3 still provides plenty of punch if you have to take your hand out of the ball.
Overall
Like other Visionary balls I’ve tried, the G-3 carries very well. I normally wouldn’t start out with this ball on a fresh shot (the Blue Sparkle Gryphon or the Green Gargoyle are better options). But when oil starts creeping down and/or if I have to move deeper inside, the G-3 comes out of the bag.
Visionary's description of the G-3 is on the money. It’s also a very good-looking ball with its red/blue dual tone. I would recommend this ball to anyone it search of a powerful pearlized ball.
