Midnight Blue Scorcher NPT
« on: March 23, 2004, 01:13:58 AM »
Is this ball Particle or Reactive???

What does the NPT stand for?

What kind of ball reaction does this ball have? How much length does it get and how strong is the backend? How much Oil can the ball handle?

Thanks!

THis came out around the time the second particle balls came out.

For example after the Chaos the extreme chaos.  After the Nighthawk MEnace the Nighthawk SPT.  After the Pro Zone Teal the Pro Zone Violet.

All lighter load and slightly higher rg.

A lot of reviews here.  This ball was universally a so so ball.

Lighter load with a tendancy to not do much on carrydown.  Lots of reviews here.

I think NPT = new particle technology.  But really just guessing.

REgards,

PS there ain't no light load particle ball like the SPell!!  Ker_hockey stick!

Midnight Scorcher - Black, heavy particle ball.  Starts out feeling smooth but after it has been exposed to oil, the particles start to expand and the surface starts to feel 'fuzzy'.  Seems to get stronger the more it is exposed to oil.

Saw a NIB, 13# at the Visionary booth at the ABC in Reno.  Might still be available.  $100, drilling included, I believe.

Scorcher NPT - Blue, Non-Particle Technology.  Cover stock is "actively enhanced" shell without textured particles.  'A special additive is infused thoughout the cover material to provide a consistent reacting ball that can be sanded, polished, or resurfaced and will still retain its special characteristics.'

To me, the NPT acted like a urethane ball.  More of an arc than hockey stick.  I think I remember my balldriller saying it was difficult to sand, kept clogging the sandpaper.  I know a couple of bowlers who liked it because it reminded them of their old blue Hammers but a bit stronger.

The Midnight Scorcher is the best heavy-oil ball I have tried.

Edited to add:

They had the NPT available at the Visionary booth at the ABC in Reno also.  I think the price was also $100, drilling included.  They also had the discontinued: Purple Warlock DC, pink DC Tour, Red Sorceror, Orange Warlock, and Glowing Amulets.

Again Edited to add:

Kind of a urethane reaction.  Backend was not really all that strong, but a lot of the energy seemed to be dissipated thoughout the lane.  Probably better suited for medium or medium-light oil conditions.  But it has been a few years since I last used one.  It came NIB as 1000 polished.  I remember that it reacted better when sanded.
