300 with Violet Gargoyle
« on: January 11, 2008, 10:39:07 AM »
I just shot a 300 last night with the Violet Garloyle.  I had been struggling with ALOT of hook the past couple months compared to earlier in the season.  I was using the Frankie May and Crimson Executioner as my 2 main balls.  Due to the struggle, I pulled my Gargoyles out of the closet (Green and Violet) and put the FM up.  They were still too much so I took both balls to the shop and took them up to 4000 abralon and added polish to the Greenie over the 4000.  I started with a Black Ice since it is quite a bit smoother with the 2 inch pin layout.  Shot 210 with 3 ten pins as I wasn't too crazy about my look.  So, I pull out the Violet and move about 20 left (standing on the gutter splice) with my feet (sliding about 42) and targeted 25 at the arrows swinging to 5-6-7 at the breakpoint and proceeded to shoot 300.  Managed to shoot 211 the final game for 721 as the track area burned up really fast the final game.  But, it felt good to post a number after struggling with a look for the past couple months.

Thanks guys.  I usually don't play that deep but have not really had a choice the past couple months.  But, sometimes playing that line is fun.

Nice shootin!  BTW the advice you gave me to sand my G-3 up to 2k made my ball a lot more controllable.  Thanks!

Typically, I could play with the Frankie May sanded to 4000 and play around between the 3rd and 4th arrows.  But, now it is taking my Black Ice sanded up to 4000 with Factory Finish to play 15 out to 5 on the fresh and then depending on the amount of carrydown in the middle, switch to the SS, Crimson, or the Green and play between the 4th and 5th arrow to keep it right of the headpin.  I have had to sand all my stuff up to 2000 minimum just to make it playable.

witesox,

You are quite welcome.  How has the ball been doing since you took it up to 2000?

Nice rolling!!!  Gotta love that Violet.  You still can't beat a Gargoyle core.

My short season league doesn't start until late Jan, but I've bowled about 15 games with the G-3 at 2k and I've been averaging 200 (which is solid for me).  I also took up Charlest's advice with the pin down and under my middle finger and tweaked the cover on my G/B Centaur and have been averaging around 200 with that ball also. So far so good!

Thanks everyone!!!  Since the change of surface up to 4000, this may be the first ball out of the bag unless something drastic happens.
