Praise the FMG! (minor FIGJAM)
« on: January 11, 2009, 06:11:47 PM »
It is not FIGJAM on a high level, but for my terms remarkable...

Had my regular traveling league start yesterday (5-men-teams, 5 games, switching lanes after each match), in a house in Bonn where I had been playing only 2 times before in 3 years, with rather bad memories. So I wanted to " play safe" and pulled out my FMG (at 1.500 grit sheen, pin 4.5x4.5, under ring finger, CG stacked) for warm-up shots. Found the lanes to be rather slick, little recovery close to the gutter but with a good back end, which allowed me a rather direct line down 2nd arrow with only a small swing out to the 8th board. Felt a bit shaky at first, also intimidated by the past, but when the lights went on I went into "killer mode" the FMG proved to be the good and easy-to-handle ball it used to be: opened with a 247, followed by a clean 237, 189, 194 and finally only a mere 166 due to carry problems/splits, because the lane dried up and I made the mistake to stick to the ball until the bitter end. At the end it was enough for an official 206.6 average (personal season high series), in a scratch league division where 170 is what you can expect and 180 average bowlers are "good" (my book average is 178).

I played well, but I owe much of this success to the FMG, and the ball (which is exotic for German standards and rather unknown) turned heads and made other players ask what the hell I was using...

Great piece of equipment: so simple, so effective!

Nice rolling dizz!

Do you use the G-3 under the FMG when the heads start to go?

Hi Scott, the G-3 is currently still in the testing phase, even though I think it would have been a very good step down in the 4th and esp. the 5th game. Despite one concentration lapse, sticking too long to the FMG was my only mistake - but with only 5 frames left I had hoped for some decent results instead of pulling out a weaker ball (would have been my Renegade) and start searching for a new line on a ridden lane with lots of traffic. The gambling just did not pay out, with 2 splits in a row... I just lost lots of wood in the final 2 frames, silly me

Anyway, the G-3 looks promising as an option just for these cases, but I still have to get to know it better before I use it in real action like league.
