What do the others think about the Immortal Pearl as a benchmark-ball?
For what I thought, a benchmark ball is a medium differential ball for medium oil, often with a solid cover? Don't know if there is any definition of "benchmark ball". I would say that maybe the Ogre Solid or Gladiator Solid could be pretty nice benchmark balls. What do the others think about that?
What about the dry lane ball? Nobody mentioned the OgreSS. And also the new Ogre Urethane? How would both of the balls compare? As for the dry lane ball, I would agree with Nor Cal Bowler that you would need a ball for really dry lanes and I don't think that the Ogre Pearl is the best ball for such conditions.
Besides, because of the Ogre Pearl begin pretty smooth (at least for me) there would be no point in using a Rico-Layout for that ball.
Maybe some others can give their input about this, too?
I would suggest the following line-up:
New Breed Solid/Immortal Solid both @box finish for heavy oil /maybe also the Particle Ogre?
Gladiator Solid with your favorite drilling as you said.
Ogre Solid at about 2000 abralon (not the heavily sanded box finish^^) (as benchmark)
I don't have any of this balls, maybe this categorization is not correct or too close together.
Ogre Pearl @box for more length and some nice pop on med/drier lanes when the Solid Ogre starts up too soon
Ogre Urethane/SS Ogre for really dry lanes with a long layout..5 1/2 pin distance for example?
