A little FIGJAM
« on: September 28, 2007, 12:33:52 AM »
I shot a nice 730 last night with a 180 game !

first game i used the Ogre pearl , missed pocket once, left (4) 10 pins,
(1) 7-10  for a fine 181 game.

second game i switched to the Immortal Pearl 300

third game first ball jumped on me, 7 spare. I left another 10 & a stone 9 finished with 249 for 730

Nice. I wish those two balls worked that well for me. For some strange reason, the Ogre Pearl and Immortal Pearl are the only two Visionary balls that I have not had good luck with. I am going to give them another go, but I may end up selling them.

Have you changed the cover ? I really didnt like the Ogre pearl until i chnaged the surface. I have to give itmore surface because of my ball speed.
I have always loved the immortal pearl but i also have alterd the cover as well.

No, both are box. I really hate changing the covers on my equipment though. The only ball I've done that with and been successful is the Ogre solid. The thing is, I don't think it is the cover really. My problem with the Ogre Pearl is that I leave alot of solid 8's and 9's. I've never had that problem before. The problem with my Immortal Pearl is that I get alot of O/U with it. One shot it hooks too much, the next too little.

Don't be afraid to tweak covers -- they come out-of-box with a finish designed to fit a certain niche for most bowlers.  You may not fit that.  For example, I hated the 4000 + polish finish on the Ebonite Total NV out of the box, but love it at 1500 or 2000 without polish.  I like a little more midlane read than some bowlers, so that fits my game to make that change.

If you're fighting over/under badly, taking the ball down some may help that.  It will let the ball skid a little less in oil, making the jump off dry less abrupt and it will let the ball come up a little more in oil as well.  That should smooth out the over/under some.  Not all the way, of course, but some.

Visionary covers are very easy to alter and bring back to OOB , I wouldnt hisitate to alter them.

From your statements i think you need to give the Immortal pearl alittle more surface. And for the OP take some surface away maybe go 2000 abralon

Congratulations on a nice series, John.

Ryan, if you have a spinner or access to one, go ahead and try it like Dan said.
