I tried a Visionary
« on: May 12, 2004, 03:35:02 AM »
I have never owned my own Visionary ball, for some reason nothing they had to offer really interested me.

I got a chance to throw a Purple Ice Executioner for a few weeks this season. I was very impressed. Smooth reaction on the backends, and it almost ignored the heads, even when they were fried. It reacted alot like a Urethane for me. I probably got to use it for 3-4 practice games and about 3 league games. I did not shoot a game below 230 with it.

It opened my eyes and I may try a couple of Visionary balls this summer.

A couple of random thoughts:

Beware, as there is nothing else in the Visionary line quitelike the Purple Ice (The Centaur is a distant cousin), that I am aware of. I suspect you liked it because it is probably a urethane base with a particle "seed". It is one of the most love-it or hate-it balls that I have ever seen. Most people are perplexed by its performance.  I would hesitate to use it as a gauge of other Visionary balls.

I suspect you may find the Granite Gargoyle of some use, with a slight polish.

Not sure if any other Vis balls might interest you (The DC Tour, the pink one, is a remote possibility; Mr. Phillip Marlowe loved that one.)

I agree with charlest....

The Purple was a love-hate fest wasn't it ?  Of the Executioners, I believe the Crimson is by far the favorite!  Low rg pearl, strong!

May want to check that one out Ex

I'll add another vote to the love-or-hate concept of the purple ice. Excaliber, if you like the ice, try something in the Gargoyle or Gryphon lines, as they are more widely liked. I had an ice and, on the right conditions, it was awesome. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get the hang of it, so it is gone. The granite and green gargoyles are both excellent balls. The Granite works wonderfully polished or dull while the greenie is as good of a lighter condition ball as you're going to find. Visionary makes some great gear at great prices, and their customer service people are awesome. So if you liked the ice, pick up something else and prepare to be really amazed.

Bowling is without a doubt the dumbest, most pointless, most idiotic excuse for a game that has ever been invented. So, what time are we bowling tomorrow?

I myself love the charcoal, although I do have the others.
I tried the purple ice out last night in our league.  IT is a control
ball to say the least.  As far as my tounament sports shot league
goes, the executioners are all I need.

Purple ice for control (Label leverage)
Charcoal for length with good back end snap (label leverage)
Charcoal for good length and hard arc (315 drill)
Crimson for very good length and backend snap (stacked leverage)

I do have the warlock DC line also (purple and pink)
The DC tour was the first ball that I tried from visionary.  LOVED IT

I wanted to thank you all for your suggestions. I have heard many good things about the Charcoal, but I am not sure with my current line up that I need another ball that hooks that much.

You still have two Gargoyles to try: Green for medium to med/light and the Slate Blue for med/light to dry.

I can't repeat enough what has already been said by these intelligent gentlemen here, but I might as well throw in my own two cents.  The Blue Gryphon, G3, Green Gargoyle, and Crimson Ex are all house condition killers.

All of these balls do not hook alot but can if drilled or thrown to.

Oh and Charlest....thanks for the tid bit about the Blue Gryphon, polishing it up some has definitely changed the read and helped tone it's mid lane down well enough to fit snugly under my Bruiser.

...........And no I didn't get my PC back, I'm on someone elses......
