Just curious Visionary People...

Just trying to get a feel for things, curious as to what your favorite and least favorite ball is in the Visionary Line. And why??

For what lane condition George?

You know about the Vis. Gryphon core with pearlized cover in that you used a Banger ball correct?

G-3 gryphon useable on any lane condition nice arcing ball, the crimson executioner is a great skid/snap ball.

Favorite new the solid ogre hooks a ton even at sunset lanes that is now a pretty oiled shot. Of course Mr. Lang will claim it is the same shot but it is different from previous years.

Like Scott said, it depends on what kind of lane conditions.  I used to be a huge Visionary fan; there's no particular reason why I stopped using them.  They make great stuff.  With that said...

My personal favorite was the Granite Gargoyle.  That ball rolled so strong and hit so well.  I had many people comment to me that it seemed like it was 20 lbs because of the carry I got with it.  I used mine on most "mediums" with tremendous results.  I retired it after I shot my first 300 with it, and gave it to my father.

Visionary tends to produce balls for specific conditions/reactions to present the bowler with a broad spectrum to choose from.  Although some balls will overlap to handle the same lane conditions, they will present different shapes/reactions on those same conditions.

I havent tried all of the balls in their current lineup yet, so I will confine my answer to their discontinued lines since I have used most of those.  No surprise to most of the long-time regulars here but my favorite ball was the Blue Warlock (close second the Blue Sparkle Gryphon, slightly scuffed), because it was/is the best benchmark ball for me.  I can use it on most medium conditions and if I cant use it on the condition, I know which ball to switch to from reading it.  My least favorite ball was the Scorcher NPT, not because it was a bad ball, but because I had other balls that could do what it did better.  It acted like a urethane ball for me, but the Red Sorcerer filled that role better.  If it was supposed to be a particle substitute (NPT), I preferred the Midnight Scorcher or the Granite Gargoyle for those roles.

For the current Visionary lineup, waiting for Scott's answer.

As others have said, the condition will determine the favorite ball. But, of the balls I currently own, my favorites are the Ogre Solid and the Bronze Centaur. The Ogre is so consistent. I have mine at 2000 abralon and it is the ultimate benchmark piece. The Bronze Centaur is just as nice.

If I had to pick a least favorite, I'd have to say both Immortals for me. I haven't really been able to get a good, consistent reaction out of either one.

George....here's what I think.  JMO but pretty Visionary faithful for over 5-6 years.  I think, I've been a test staff member since 2000. I also do use some other equipment.  I like to see what's out there and to compare against Visionary.  I use some LM/L equipment...note they are much like Visionary high Rg thick covers.  I tend to like high Rg balls rev dominant tweener.

First of all, I have always liked the little guy....better customer service.  Betsy is the bomb and Jason will always help.  Family oriented businesses these days are fewer and I'd rather give my $$$ to those kinds of businesses.

Add to that, I was Hammer faithful before Visionary always liked their equipment.  Black, Blue and Burgandy my favs.

My first Visionary stuff came to me used.  Bought in the late 90's a Magenta DC Tour, Greenie, and Orange Warlock from Rich Wonders the black sheep of the Wonders clan who has a bowling center in Racine, Wisconsin and pro shop. Rich has an eagle and is one of the top notch seniors in Cheeseland.

Over the years, I've tried these Vis. balls that I can remember have most of them did sell a few the 3 I mentioned above...plus either new or used Red Sorcerer, Blue Warlock, Crimson Executioner, Charcoal Ex., Glowing Amulet, Purple Ice Ex., Blue Sparkle Gryphon, Burgandy Gryphon, Midnight Scorcher, FMG, G-3, Blue/Green Centaur, All the Gargoyles.... Granite <from michelle>, Violet, Greenie, all the Ogres....Solid, Pearl and SS, and my last purchase an Immortal Solid.  I have not used any of the AMB line Bronze, Solid or Particle...mainly because for the most part I either had those conditions covered by other Vis. balls and in my area they don't put as much oil down for those types of balls to work well.  So, I've used just about everything.

Which ones did I like the best?  Honor scores would reflect I matched up well with the Gargoyle line.  Granite and Violet I did real well with.  Also, Ex. line I loved both Crimson and Char were killer.  I've mentioned before that I never have left so mnay 8 pins that with the Char. Ex.  Also like Gary aka MI 2 AZ I loved the even bench mark roll of the Blue Warlock and Blue Sparkle.

But those were balls of the past...right now the Ogre line will cover all but the extreme flooded condtion and you have the AMB Particle for that.  Normally, I start with the Solid pin above and right of ring 4" pin to PAP 60 deg. X hole on VAL 1" below midline and have it right now at 600 wet sand with light coat of Legends polish over on a THS.  At a 1000 abralon with no polish I tend to leave flat 10's on most synthetic surfaces that I bowl on for league. Both the Solid and Pearl are nice arcing balls. If, I need a lil more kick on the backend I switch to an Immortal Solid pin over bridge slightly towards middle 5 1/2" pin to PAP MB 2" right of thumb no X hole 45 deg. 1000 OOB with a lil Legends polish over.  Or I go right to the Pearl pin over ring 4 1/2" pin to PAP CG mid grip 75 deg. no X hole also can use this ball to start on some conditions....depends on length and backends.  Tend to use a Solid to tame down ripping clean backends then move to Pearl.  Then, SS will clean up unless there is a lot of carry down which I have not seen this year.  SS is pin over bridge 5" pin to PAP CG mid grip 90 deg. no X hole.

The 3 Ogres plus the Immortal is all I have been using this year except for some tourneys.  Used Blue/Green, FMG, Pearl on sport condition tourneys that I've bowled this year.

I'd say the 2 balls that I did not like are gone now.  Purple Ice for sport conditions I never could match up with...probably had it laid out wrong for what I was trying to do.  Orange Warlock was very oil sensitive for me.  FWIW....I gave the Purple Ice to a fellow team mate who is rev challenged and he kills with it.  I knew he would.  Different strokes for different folks.

Coverstock lonegvity is well documented.  Easy company to deal with and around for the long haul.

Wanna know more I've got more thoughts.

Scott,

I appreciate the rundown of your stuff and what you have thought about it over the years. It is greatly appreciated in what I am looking for! I have been told the Ogre's are great to work with!! They basically can be all benchmark balls for each type of player. They all compliment each very well and go each step up and down.

If anyone else has anything, I would love to hear it! Even if you just want to talk about a Visionary ball you had good success with and shot a few honor scores or just a ball you really didn't think was good for you.. Thanks everyone!

I've been using Visionary equipment the past few years and have had sucess with most, but not all, of their stuff. Favorites right now are the following-

Heavy oil- Midnight Scorcher. Hard arcing, heavy hitter with an indestructable coverstock. Very consistent roller if you have enough oil.
Med/heavy- Charcoal Executioner. Another arcing ball that hits like a truck. Only have a few games on it since I picked one up used, but it's my current favorite.
Med/light- Green Gargoyle. Excellent skid/snap piece.

Balls that didn't match up well with me- AMB Solid and AMB Bronze Pearl. Might have been the drillings, but never could score consistently with these 2. Still have the Bronze, just don't use it much anymore.

Would love to pick up an Ogre or two as I've heard nothing but praise for the entire lineup.

I have had good experiences with all the Visionary equipment so far.

FMG- Heavier mediums
Immortal Pearl- my first ball out of the bag these days
Ogre SS- I use this after my IP starts checking up to open up more of the lane. It is a bit stronger than the Green Gargoyle.

The Green Gargoyle that was a bit too condition specific for me. I loved the reaction when on the right condition which was lighter mediums for me.

I have not had one that I did not like, but my favorite is the blue/green centaur.  I have quite a few revs and a medium speed, so the b/g works on a wider range of conditions for me than it will for most.

Visionary balls that I have used:
1. Charcoal Executioner ( 2 actually )
2. Green Gargoyle  ( again X 2 )
3. Granite Gargoyle ( Stupid for letting this one go )
4. Blue sparkle Gryphon
5. Burgundy Particle Gryphon
6. Blue/Green Centaur

Looking to try out a pearl OGRE sometime.  These people make really good stuff and they have really good customer relations people.  They stand behind everything they say, make, and do.
