What kind of crap is that?  Did they just figure that since hardly anyone uses them that they might as well discontinue them for PBA events?  Can anyone make any sense of this like half the other rules that the PBA and ABC have?

Very simple one word answer TwoHands....ECONOMICS.

Visionary, did not pay the PBA product registration fee. They along with such companies as Master Industries, Moro, etc., obviously don't feel that the return on their dollars is enough to justify the fee.

If a product is good, it will sell, regardless if it is used within PBA competition.

Well...it is like this. When PBA registration fee went from $55,000 last year to 90,000 this year for the small ball companies, how could they afford to be registered. Major ball companies are paying $100,000 a year. Turbo grips fee was $15,000 last year and was going to be $37,000 this year but was renegotiated back to $16,000. Way too much money. This is before staffers get paid and comp balls given out.

Having past experience with marketing, it was incredible what the NFL wanted to license products. Plus those fees were per not only a license registration fee, per product, per team, but also a percentage of profit/sales. This made it unaffordable for the small manufacturer of handicapped childrens products that I represented.

Morich is OK for regiional events, but not on the tour.

But, you are entirely right.  The PBA isn't being fair to the smaller companies that can't afford 100k to be approved.  The PBA is practically trying to force the smaller ball companies out of business, and it pisses me off.

it's not so much that the pba is trying to force the small ball companies out of business as it is them making a buck. you have to remember the "tour" was bought by a couple of guys who are business men, and that is what it is to them, a business. bottom line is  they are looking to make a profit.  they are not there to protect bowling etc, but to run there business, hence we'll charge what we want for you to be able to play in "our" game.

No, thats not true.  Visionary is not approved for ANY PBA event, which includes regional competition.  

MFD301, I understand what you're saying, which is why I don't like it. The PBA is being extremely shortsighted in a lot of their dealings, and, in my opinion, is only planning for the short term, rather than the long term.  I think that they could sacrifice some now, to make a lot more later.  And I don't just mean for ball companies, and such.  I mean, advertisement, marketing, things like that too.  Things that would draw a larger audience, and hence create a larger revenue.

There are other small companies though, Lane #1 and Morich, its funny that those two companies are in relationship with brunswick.
Azo, Lanemasters,and legends aren't approved either. I think the biggest suprise is that Circle is considered a first rate company with all 5 of their balls.

I believe Circle is owned by Chip Zielke and I believe he may have been affiliated with the tour at one time.

This news really sucks for me cause Visionary is the only ball company that i throw and i bowl PBA Regionals so unless they get a contract for at least regionals i will have to replace my hole line

Unfortunately, due to the recent format change and the price increase in registration fees, Visionary has decided not to participate in the PBA program for the 2004-2005 season. This decision was not taken lightly and was neither anticipated nor desired.

Our corporate goal has always been to serve the bowling public with high quality, high performing bowling balls at an affordable price. In order to maintain these goals, and continue serving bowlers and pro shops with the same commitment and price structure that they have become accustomed to, we felt the only option was to temporarily step away from the PBA. We understand that this decision is not going to be popular with bowlers that participate in the Regional, Senior or National PBA Tour, and we sincerely apologize for any inconveniences that it may cause.

We would also like to reitterate that our equipment has been, and will continue to be approved for ABC, WIBC, YABA, and USBC sanctioned events, including all leagues and tournaments that are not governed by the PBA. Bowlers who do not participate in the Regional, Senior or National PBA Tour will in no way be effected by this decision.

At Visionary, we truly appreciate all of our loyal customers, and want to thank you for your continued support. If there is anything that we can do to assist you in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us.
