Immortal
« on: January 17, 2006, 03:04:44 PM »
Is the Immortal a USBC grandfathered ball?  I saw an ad for it in this month's Bowlers Journal and it said it had a diff of .078.  The new limit is .060.

I didn't see this ball listed on the Visionary website.  Any info on the ball, coverstock, core, etc?  I saw Scotts post about a pearl and solid version coming out.

Yep..it's grandfathered.

Supposedly coming out in Feb.  Being that Visionary is busy with lots of overseas orders, etc.

I spoke with Jason near the end of last week and they've still been extremely busy at the Plant.

He informed me that he will try to get online and answer a few questions that people have, but with as many orders as there are for foreign and domestic, he's not had the chance to get online much at all.

Be patient, information is coming soon, I know everyone is excited....I am too!!

Since this seems to be a different ball (new or different coverstocks plus different cores, because the RG differential is so much larger (.078 vs ,062), how, by what logic, are they grandfathered in?

I thought I understood the AMB solid& particle being grandfathered in, which was a 2nd AMB Centaur, with the same name and a solid cover, I believe, vs the original's pearl. The Immortal seems just different, with even larger differentials.

Just checked the USBC approved ball list: the Immortal pearl & solid were approved in January 2005, at the same time as the AMB balls. Hmmmmm? doesn't the USBC need a physical ball present to approve? So, if Visionary had one there in Jan. 2005, ......

    Jason, what's the story?
I'm sure I'm missing something; I am curious.
    thanx.

From what I understood, the Immortals ARE already approved because Visionary submitted the test ball before the date mandated by USBC.  So, in reality, the ball does already exist.  However, Visionary, unlike other companies, does not simply churn out ball after ball and continually flood the market just to have something "new" every few months, which I respect.  Remember Visionary is a small company, and they have their hands full right now with the great products they already make.  The Immortals seem to be their "ace in the hole" if you will for whenever they feel the time is right to bring out new line just like Gargoyle to Executioner to Gryphon to AMB .....

Just an FYI.....Jason says as soon as they get caught up with Int'l orders maybe around Feb. 20 or so.  I would assume ship the ones that have been back ordered first.

Some folks have been asking me about The Immortal....this is for the Black Pearl whuich I am interested in a deep inside ball.  I asked Jason and this is verbatim from the man....

    The Immortal is as follows:

Coverstock - Similar to that of the G-3 Gryphon.  This cover skates in the oil, and is extremely aggressive when it hits the dry.

Core - Similar design to the AMB, however there is an additional cap placed on the bottom of the core allowing for higher differential and a heavier midlane roll.

RG - If I remember correctly (I'm at home right now) the RG is around 2.50" which is average.

RG Differential - Possibly one of if not the highest differential ever created that is ABC/USBC approved.  The RG Differential is .078" which is just under the old differential limit of .080".  This ball was approved and is grandfathered in, so there will be no problem using it in any event that is not PBA governed.

Flare Potential - Extremely high.  Some of our testers have actually claimed to have flared around the entire ball, drilled label.  It will flare 7+ inches for anyone with any hand.

    Color - Black Pearl

Hope this gives you a little insight into the new ball.  We are planning on releasing it around Feb. 20th, but we want to make sure that all of our international orders are completed and shipped so that there are no lengthy backorders with a new release.

So, I hope that answers questions about The Black Pearl Immortal.  I'd look for it end of Feb.

On edit:  FYI...there will be two Immortals one pearl and one solid.
