Got a bud that owns an Ogre Solid and recently purchased the Ogre Pearl.

They are both drilled the same with similar specs; pin under the ring finger and about .5" right of that with the CG about 1" right of the pin.  (roughly 4x3)

He ordered up an Ogre SS and we are discussing layout options.  Since the cover isn't Eradicator I figured let me be open minded to some opinions.

His specs are - PAP 4.75" over and .25" up - ball speed is 13mph at the deck - style is stroker - ball speed and revs are a close match.

What would you suggest?

i plan on mine being drilled the same as my other ogres. why not do that?

Yes, thought about that as well, probably is the best idea.

Was just interested to see what others did since it's a different cover.

My specs are close to his.  I am 4 7/8" over and 0.  Ball speed around 13 at the deck and 16 to 17 in the heads.  325 to 350. Rev dominant.  

My SS is drilled pin over ring and 80 deg. which for me makes it about a 4.25" pin to PAP and a 4" PAP to CG, OOB surface..  Ball rolls well not the skid snap of a Greenie...mine makes a definite move but more rounded than the Greenie. One of the reasons I don't see the big snap is I generally use it on Bruns Anvilane that's a bit carried down.  Makes the corner easily but the carry down mellows it out more.  My Ogre Pearl is drilled about the same.  OP is more rolly and stronger.

I have a pin up 4 1/2 pin to pap, it has pretty good length I fear pin high for him would be too long unless really dry. I have pretty good speed probably 17.5-18 at the pins and around 330 rev rate and more of a forward roll.

I find  that sometimes it needs to have more axis tilt added with a softer release to hookup at the right point on medium light patterns. Shot 207 with it last time out so the hit is very good when it makes the turn hard enough.

Seems to actually outhook my Ogre Pearl which is a big hit and miss kind of ball for me, The SS has the same pin placement. So that cover is from being a weak cover and needs friction help to turn with authority, I am going to go 4k with OP and then go dull if that fails.

the ss for me has a very strong cover but it does skid in oil. by this I mean as long as there is friction this balls turns left big time.

has that kind of weird strongness that the ogre pearl has. seems like it just going to skid then suddenly you find yourself hitting brooklyn hahaha it always cracks me up when people go NO NO he threw it in the gutter!!! then BAM solid in the pocket! then all they can do is ask me what the heck im throwing... lol


I agree that I would drill them the same. its the same core so you should be ok with the same layout unless you are looking for a drastically different reaction.
