Current Line Question

What ball in the current line up would fit between the Ogre Solid box surface and the Ogre Pearl box surface. I'm looking to fill a void the OS is too unpredictable with different surface preps an is just useless for me except on heavier volume and the OP is just not enough in the first 10 frames. I do not like changing the surface on a pearl so that is out of the question. Besides th OP is just where I want it for what I am seeing in the second two games of the set.

If it were me, I would go with another Ogre Solid @ 4000 no polish (2000 no polish if you don't have alot of hand).  Or a Frankie May polished with an appropriate surface.

TrimMan & Eddie,

I would have suggested either or both of those, BUT mab said he does not want to adjust the coverstocks. Otherwise, I just don't know what, in their current line-up to suggest.

Just to clear things up a bit. I don't mind changing covers I have a spinner. I just do not like to change my pearls as I have almost always been right on with them in box there have been a couple of exceptions other mfrs. The OP's are just how I like them, drilled different thats how I like to adjust pearls. Solids have almost always needed to be adjusted for me to use them so I do not have any problem in doing that. I have the under covered very well with a second OP,SS,B/G Centaur. The OS is a mystery as I have been adjusting this cover and just can not get a handle on the surface in order to get the look I need to make it fit,a tough nut to crack. I hope this helps clear things up

Then try the Ogre Solid at 4000 grit or 2000 grit. It's a completely different ball than it it is at its stock 600 grit, for me anyway. AT 4000 grit, I geta lot of backend and I can go all the way out to the dry (around 5 board in my house) and it will turn like it had more flare. But at 4000 grit, carrydown can be a problem. At 2000 grit it is less of a problem.

The Centaur AMB solid at 2000 grit (its stock surface is 1000 grit) will also be less (handle less oil) that the Ogre solid at its stock 600 grit. Because of its MUCH greater flare potential, I think the Centaur AMB solid will be much more useful at 4000 grit and handle more carrydwon than the Ogre solid at the same grit. (I've been meaning to try a Centaur AMB solid for the longest time, but now that my favorite, Lanemasters has a similar ball, the XS Power, it might be a hard choice to make between them. )

From my personal experience the OS @ 4000 is just little stronger than the FMG @ 1000.  And the FMG @1000 is stronger than the OP @ OOB.  So from that I would recommend...

OS - OOB
OS - 1000 - 4000 (select based on your own needs)
FMG - 1000 - 4000 (same as above)
OP - OOB

Either the OS or FMG will fit nicely in the area you describe below an OS OOB and OP OOB.  The main consideration with these 2 balls, is how do you want the ball to roll.  In my experience the Ogre line gives a more preictable roll, while the Frankie May flares much more and has more of skid roll hook feel to it.

Wayne and Jeff have it correct AMB Solid.  Leave your Ogre Pearl alone IMO leave it in OOB surface.  Great ball in OOB surface for mediums.

Thanks again for your insights. I was thinking of either getting another OS and drilling it pin over 4.5X60 w/2000-4000ab cover and taking my origional OS back to 600/500ab(which will happen this weekend) or another ball and was giving the AMB/FMG some thought,covers the same different cores very similar numbers. It sounds like the AMB solid is the way to go with the cover at 2000-4000 ab and stay with the origional thought of drilling I had for the OS 4.5X60 pin over weight hole in thumb quadrant.

I will never touch the surface of the OP/SS they are just too darn good !!!
