blue gryphon

Ball is crazy.  What a backend on the sucker.  Gets average length for a polished solid resin ball but backend is explosive.  Doesn't make as sharp of a turn as the silver streak pearl, gryphon is more of a very hard roll up and I mean HARD.  Gives the appearance as if it accelerating after the breakpoint.  Some people who saw me throw it said it snaps (because they are sissy fluffers).  My teammate and I didn't think it snapped.  We noticed that when it hits the breakpoint it turns hard but still maintains a lot of revs afterwards (more revs than other balls I've thrown), then it uses these revs to drive towards its is direction of rotation (kinda like a dumping the clutch on a car at 5000 rpms).  Thus it gives this appearance of accerlerating after the breakpoint.  This makes for a fun throwing VERY hard driving hard hitting ball that leaves a path of destruction.  But it also makes it not a very good control ball for higher rev players.  For them the key it to get it to the breakpoint without it losing too much energy.  I noticed when I threw it in light oil upfront it just laid down flat on the backend and did so very emphatically.  So the key to this ball, moreso than others, is how much energy it has when it reaches the backend.  All in all, great on its condition and it will blatantly let you know when its not matching up.   I dont' see it as a versatile ball.

I didn't fluff it so I am not going to comment on the sissy shot, it just doesn't feel manly.   But for sissies I would suspect that it they would be able to use it on a wider variety of shots.  For the high rev players, NOPE its condition specific but great when it matches up.  It also seemed to handle carrydown very well and liked to be played in the oil as long as possible.

How did you drill it up?

Straight up with pin and cg all on centerline and pin above fingers.  No weight hole.

I had my drilled with Pin under ring and cg kicked( to pap) out on grip centerline. weight hole back to 1/4 side. I don't have the manly revs you have but I don't fluff it either. I like this setup and the balls reaction. it's less jumpy and revs from the midlane hard. I can swing it on light oil (4th arrow to 5) and go up more on medium. I'm going to drill up a burgundy with a similar pattern only 1/2oz thumb weight.

Next I will bride a mechanic to put out enough oil so I can use it .

as a side note. I find that when I put the pin above the fingers and stack the cg, the ball reaction is too angular and too jumpy off the dry.

Be careful when you do that, most of the mechanics I have met take the honeymoon seriously.

Have you seen what lane mechanics look like?  YUK!  They look like they just crawled out from underneath a bridge before going to work.  Most are of the male species.  And these are the kind of people that you want to "bride".  Hmmmmmmmm.  Nicanor is your man!

well, I meant "Bribe". Freud may have a thing or two to say about my typo. All that talk about balls and some guy named pchee.

Pchee, I was looking at the BTM spec page right after I ordered the Silver Streak Pearl.  The numbers on the Blue Gryphon are almost identical.  I was curious if anyone had thrown both to compare them.

Strider,

I noticed that the gryphon burns energy fast in the fronts if not enough oil, much faster than other balls.   With this ball I have to constantly move to chase sufficient oil.  Its not a ball that I can stay long in one place.  I think it would be better in the hands of a fluffer.  For them it will be a med-light ball like the spec sheet says.  For someone that turns it they need a medhigh volume of oil up front and in the mids.

After comparing the 2, I think the gryphon is earlier, capable of handling more oil and less angular.  I also think the SSP is easier to control and predict than the Gryphon.

Something that reacts more dynamically to the dry than the SSP?  Wow!  I like to play the SSP in a much tighter line than any of my equipment.  Still hits great without needing the big swing.  Hit the dry too early and you'll be lucky to catch the left side of the head pin.

I wouldn't say that the gryphon reacts more dynamically off the dry than the SSP because the SSP is sharper.  The gryhpon just bleeds energy faster up front but if it saves energy for the backend it does turn hard (not as sharp as ssp).   Whereas the SSP "seems" to have more of a consistent speed off the breakpoint (which makes the ssp easier to predict and control), the Gryphon gets into a hard drive that "seems" to accelerate after the breakpoint if it saves energy for the backend.

Its hard to explain in words.
