Bronze Centaur AMB - First Impression
« on: March 20, 2007, 11:37:37 PM »
I got to drill up this one last night. It's not as ugly as most people say. I actually like the color of it a bit. Anyway, after measuring out the mb and laying the ball out, I wound up with the pin over ring finger, mb 2.5" right of thumb. I was hoping to get a long, strong and smooth reaction out of this pattern.

I was able to throw the ball in league on a shot that seemed to have more oil than usual. In addition, it is a late league so there is carrydown from open play and earlier leagues.

I was not able to swing the ball at all on this shot. The carrydown completely killed the reaction and the ball barely moved at all. So, I moved outside and played 11 at the arrows, 8 as my bp. What I found is a long and smooth reaction. The ball cleared the heads easily and practically ignored the mids, then it just rolled up very controllably into the pocket. Now, this isn't the optimal condition for this ball, but I was determined to use my new piece so I stuck with it.

I was able to find some dry boards downlane at about 5, so I pushed the ball out to see what it would do and it reacts much stronger off the dry, obviously, but the reaction was still smooth and controlled. I can't wait til I get this ball on a fresh shot with stripped backends. Then I can really see what it will do.

Thus far, I like what I see out of this and the Ogre. Very impressed with Visionary stuff. I'm planning on purchasing my platinum test staff membership this week, now I need to choose 4 more balls!!

Generally Rock77 a G-3 will handle some carry down and is stronger off the spot than than the Bronze.

I know where the reviews go, but after 4 games, I'm not ready to do that. I was simply giving a first impression.

Scotts, yeah, I had kinda figured the G-3 into the mix of 4 that I get. Although, how do the G-3 and Immortal Pearl compare?

No worries.

    Rock77,

Do ask Stephen.  I've never drilled an Immortal...Pearl or Solid bit afraid it was too much for what I roll on and in some folks opinion you don't drill a strong ball weak....which IMO probably ain't right and I like to try some different stuff but I haven't drilled one yet.  I am rev dominant....medium speed.

Look at the Pearl on the Buddies site.  Compares solid vs. pearl.  Pearl and G-3 may overlap.

I'll tell ya one thing pearl covers have always been Visionary strong suit IMO.

  • I apologize for the confusion.

So, as Scotts33 mentioned, the Immortal Pearl and the G-3 gryphon. Will they overlap??

The Immortal Pearl will pick up a little sooner than the G-3 but the backend reactions seem to be very similar.  Because the Immortal Pearl has a higher differential and more flare potential, it's overall hook is a little more.  I had to knock the shine off of my Imm Pearl so that it wasn't as similar as my G-3.

  • Thanks for the input. I actually emailed Visionary and they told me the same thing. They recommended that I get the FMG, Immortal Pearl and Slate Blue as 3 of my 4 balls in the platinum membership package. Now I need to figure out a 4th. I'd get the Centaur Particle, but I don't see that much oil as of right now. Maybe when I bowl more tourneys next year, but right now, I see a med shot on most nights. I'd really like to get the Immortal Solid too, but am not sure if that and the FMG will overlap.

Rock Think about picking up a G/B centaur. It handles med/light to med oil very well and doesn't over react on the backend. Its a great control peice that your visionary lineup is missing. When the backends a flying and polished stuff is hooking too hard on the back this is the ball to go to with a touch of polish on the oob is sails thorugh the heads and smooth off the dry. It aow me to play staighter on lighter patters as long as I find the dry boards it will crush the hole. Very predictable.

I play with HAND when need be or straight when it scores

What ever the problem you have when bowling the answer is always more L.O.F.T (Lack of Freaking Talent)

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind as well.

    Rock,

Get the Ogre for your 4th choice.  There is a HUGE hole between the IP, FMG, and Slate.  A mid-performance solid will do you just right.  I think the Centaur will not be enough of a difference to fill that gap from my own experiences and I have ALOT of rev rate.  I would suggest a Violet Gargoyle or Ogre as the 4th to give you enough play room in the gap.  Then, adjust the surfaces as needed as all those balls take cover changes very easily.

Ooops.  I was not aware he already had the Ogre until after it was too late.
